Can this work with a meike lens 85mm

Hi, I have Canon eos r100, and the meike adaptor to use the canon ef-s 55-250mm stm lens, all are working fine, however any value higher than f5.6, the camera won't take any pictures and shows error "check connection between lens and mount" is this a common issue or just mine? I don't know which one is faulty betwen my lens and adapter. hope you can help me. thanks.
