I have the 16", 18" and 20" crash ride and here's how I describe them. It's like Meinl EQ'd out all of the nasty harshness and clangy characteristics you get from a lot of cymbals. (Talkin to you, Zildjian) It cuts but doesn't slice. It's not terribly washy but just washy enough. It get it's point across just enough for you to take notice then ducks out of the way so it doesn't overpower the rest of the mix. They are truly amazing cymbals. Do your ears a favor and go play some. You'll thank me later. Also they're great if you play without headphones or ear muffs. They don't hit you with a ton of ear fatigue after a while.

Man I love your review. Especially the idea of the words popping out at every hit ( DARK - DRY - SMOOTH.. etc...)... THAT was really cool and effective haha. I also own this cymbal and use it as my main crash... I absolutely love it. For me, it's the PERFECT crash sound. Perfect balance between a brilliant crash and a dark trashy dry crash (with some china characteristics). I also have the 16'' version, that I use as a stack hihat bottom combined with a 16'' Byzance Vintage Trash Crash on top. But what's even cooler, is that I can also use it as my main hihat top combined with my 16'' extra dry hihat bottom. It makes it a very unique hihat, considering the dual hat doesn't exist in 16''. SO many options with 4x 16'' cymbals!!!

Nice video man! Meinl is great! I have a 18" medium thin byzance crash and I really love this too. Since this has a dark, dry sound, I was thinking about getting the 18" but I just don't know if it would be a dumb idea to have 2 18" crashes. I was thinking about the 16" dual crash but idk. Do you think it would be odd to have 2 18" crashes even though this crash has a totally different sound? Thanks

+Alec Drums I think you should do whatever sounds best to you! I don't think it's super out of the ordinary to have two 18" crashes, especially when they will sound very different from each other.

Hey Gabe! Great review. I had a quick question. So I am looking to get a new left side crash and wondered if you could help. I currently have Istanbul cymbals, so they are a little darker, and my current left side crash is a 16 inch. I want a bigger crash 18-22 and to have quite a big sustain. I was actually looking at using a ride, maybe a 20 inch k custom dark ride, as my left side crash. If not a ride I want something I could ride a little bit on if need be, but also have a great crash sound without getting to out of control. So I was just wondering if you had any personal opinions and could help me out! Thanks so much again Gabe!
@DrumBeatsOnline8 жыл бұрын
+Hayden MacMath Hey Hayden! Some rides can totally work as crashes, but my experience with the K rides is that they are super thick and heavy, so personally I feel like the volume would just get too loud and washy. I'm pretty sure Zildjian has 20" K dark crashes. Those could be a great option for you! Otherwise, I love my 20" Meinl Byzance medium crash (my right hand crash.) I'm sure anything you pick will be great!

How durable is this cymbal? I break at least two crash cymbals per year, so this is a big factor for me.
@DrumBeatsOnline6 жыл бұрын
I broke 1 in about 3 years time. So for me, I'd say it's durable! But it all depends on how you play it I guess.

@robintarket68446 жыл бұрын
I love it, but maybe as an additional part of the review you can take a look at the pricepoint and durability? That way, other drummers like myself can determine whether it's worth getting apart from playability and see how it can fit into a budget.

Would you say it is a fragile cymbal? Easy to break?
@DrumBeatsOnline8 жыл бұрын
It's very thin, but sometimes that can offer even more flex which allows it to be more durable. I haven't had any issues with it cracking on me!
@tiagodon8 жыл бұрын
+Drum Beats Online Thanx. I have a 18' extra dry crash. I used to pair it with a 18' thin jazz crash. Perfect combination! From jazz, blues to heavy metal. But my jazz cymbal cracked on me, unfortunately. I'm looking for a replacement. I used a 18' vintage trash crash, but it lacks brightness. Do you think the dual crash would fit in well?
@DrumBeatsOnline8 жыл бұрын
Absolutely!
@shittybill39008 жыл бұрын
Since it's so thin how long would it last for a pretty heavy hitter such as myself
@ronnie.c32228 жыл бұрын
Thicker cymbals break easier than thin cymbals because they can't flex and vibrate as easily as a thin cymbal. A thin cymbal has more flex so it can vibrate and move well. I think this cymbal will be just fine for you and last quite a while.
@shittybill39008 жыл бұрын
Cameron Hamson have never thought of it that way but it makes sense. Thanks!
@AquaAnim8 жыл бұрын
+Cody Crumpton How heavy a hitter? You can only hit a cymbal so hard before you start choking it, and or it wont get any louder.
@shittybill39008 жыл бұрын
AquaAnim just generally pretty hard. Not the hulk or anything. I'm a metal drummer so you can imagine how hard i would hit
@AquaAnim8 жыл бұрын
+Cody Crumpton gotcha, i mean as long as your swiping at the cymbal when crashing and not going through, should last forever. Morgan Agren hits really hard and most of his cymbals have lasted 20+ years and hes still using them.

I dunno man, the dual sounds way too fluffy and sour for a main. I've been misliking them ever since Anika Nilles played duals on her Drumeo videos, and as left mains too, and I hated hearing them every time, but thankfully, on most her other videos she's using a normal extra dry on the left. And the extra dry sounds good. I get the novelty excitment but I think that for a main left (and rights too) one needs more serious/traditional kinds of sounds. I mean even Charlie Watts' left, which is a small chinese, sounds wholesome, fluffy and thorny but still well within that color spectrum of serious crashes. So you see, even excentrics pick their mains within the generously wide traditional palette. The dual, I think, can only make for a good weird kind of cool when rarely used flashy effect. I would hide it far to the right, well obscured by a serious cymbal, hit it only ever so often, maybe only together with a louder main. It doesn't work at all on it's own, it's like frosting ornament when you expect a hearty meal, which is what a main needs to be, whatever the range. The dual as a main is a frustrating sound, not only does it not fill but it also leaves you with a chemical acid aftertaste. Sure, it's not brutally cringey but that in itself adds to the insult. It's like it's not deeming you worthy of full agravation, and it's toying with you, see how much you can endure it's half insults. Not good. The hats sound good though, remind me of them old light ks.
@DrumBeatsOnline7 жыл бұрын
+Strelock Wow, you really feel strongly about this cymbal. It's fine to say that it's not for you, but for others it could work really well! Like myself. But everyone has their different preferences and there are no rules to any of this. Which is what makes picking your cymbals out so much fun.

I have the 20" and it's a bit louder but still decays very fast. And you can ride it because it is a crash ride. It's super smooth and feels nice when you play it. I use it as my main crash along side the 21" transition ride. Most gigs I just bring those two cymbals 👍🏻🤘🏻along with hats of course. Hahah
