Probably one of the best cymbal demos, thank you! Been thinking about switching Meinl. I use a mix of sabian ax and hhx. Meinl has done an exceptional job in bringing new flavors to bring new sonic value to the market. Less glassy and shimmery, more raw character. I'm convinced.

Wow I'm actually amazed at how you remind me of my own style behind the drums. Talking about the grooves not the looks of course. Love the sound and mix too!

My god... that dual crash sounds awesome!!! I am about to Change my cymbal Setup. Used to be a Zildjian guy but Meinl has done great work in the past years. Can't wait to get my hands on some Meinl Stuff!!! By the way you are awesome Siros. Great Drummer and teacher. Please keep doing your great work. Hope you'll get endorsed by Meinl soon ;)

Yea Zildjian was fine in highschool. But I went with Sabian for professional use because of the darker tones. BUT I do like Meinl in what they are accomplishing in offering just as much variety as Sabian come 2016. Zildjian and Paiste have always been lacking with diversity. But I would be fine with a Meinl or Sabian endorsement, great companies.

I actually used sabians for my first high end cymbal set, it was some hhx and I really loved the hats and the 21" groove ride. I recently made the switch to some meinl Byzance and a mix of zildjian k's and also love them, I'm starting to love meinl

Hey, interested in buying some meinl cymbals (a 20" dual crash ride, a 20" trad medium thin Byzance crash and probably a China) but I have no idea about durability. Have you broke any yet? And if yes how long did they last?
@sirosvaziri
@sirosvaziri 8 жыл бұрын
Hey man! First of all, great choices. I've been keen to try the 20" dual crash-ride myself, hopefully I'll get my hands on one someday haha. Anyway, I'd say Meinl cymbals have great durability if you play them right. Obviously many of the Byzance cymbals are quite thin, so if you're a very hard hitter or if you haven't quite honed your technique then you might run into some breakage eventually. I've broken a few over the years, but Meinl's warranty is fantastic - depending on how the cymbal has cracked, you're very likely to be able to get a replacement by contacting the dealer you bought the cymbal from, given it's within 2 years of the original purchase.

Hey, what's the reason for having your rack toms the "opposite" way round? I'm just curious as I see a few drummers setting up like that. Cheers!
@simaojoseph
@simaojoseph 7 жыл бұрын
Why it Has to be the ""opposite" way"? Same reason why some players play HI Hats with their left hand. Have you ever tried it?
@stevel2309
@stevel2309 7 жыл бұрын
I put "opposite" in inverted commas for a reason. Because it's not necessarily opposite, just opposite to the way most people do it. I am actually in the process of learning to play open-handed, but I don't see any similarity with that and setting up rack toms this way. Open-hand frees up your arms and makes certain things less awkward, but it seems like the "opposite" tom thing makes things more awkward.
@simaojoseph
@simaojoseph 7 жыл бұрын
The similarity is exactly the same as your way to described opposite. Most drummers play cross handed.
@stevel2309
@stevel2309 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, and setting your toms up the "opposite way" forces you to cross your hands more than usual. That is not the same as open-handed. It doesn't really matter anyway, never mind!

My guess is that the 12inch tom is the primary high tom that he goes to? So he will only go to the 10inch if he wants a higher sound, kind of like a 4piece kit but with a extra 10inch tom on the right.

I can't stand that damn trash crash used as a ride cymbal. It's all preference so it's all subjective but that trash crash sounds beautiful as a crash but the bell is way too washy and the fact you have to put a giant o ring on it says it all. Why not just use a normal ride with a lighter weight if you like that washy sound with a washy bell but would have a better bell overal and better stick definition cause u are trying to muffle and kill some sustain on that trash crash anyways.

BURNING Note to all u youngsters : Meinl doesn't hammer/lathe out a single cymbal from the Byzance line themselves: they all are manufactured in the Turkish region of Istanbul by master handcraftsmen & artisans. In effect all those cymbals are more like Aegan, Bosphorus, Dyril,Turkish or any real Turkish hand made cymbals that exist . The only credit Meinl has to offer is , they are stamped with a Meinl logo. Most of u do not realize u play on an overpriced "Byzance" that is in fact a Turkish Istanbul region made cymbal with a fucking high marketing pricetag.
@sirosvaziri
@sirosvaziri 7 жыл бұрын
Having visited the Meinl factory twice now, I can say you're a bit in the wrong here. True, Meinl don't do any hammering themselves to the Byzance cymbals. However, aside from doing all the R&D work coming up with the different cymbal models, not to mention the business side of things with making them widely available around the world, Meinl actually does a fair bit of finishing work on the Byzance cymbals at their own factory. This includes all the lathing, surface treatment, cleaning, polishes, edge rounding, logo engraving/stamping, and more. To fully discredit them is pretty ignorant. There's a reason Meinl cymbals don't sound just like those other brands you mentioned.

cymbals don't make a drummer. but I think meinl is so popular now a days because they have so many different series with such a unique range of sounds. not to mention they are all great quality. my 20" Zildjian dark thin crash is my favourite cymbal, but some of these dark series and traditional series cymbals are amazing

Meinl and Sabian seem to be the best for serious drummers. Zildjian seems to me like cymbals for average rock drummers and Paiste is for shitty metal. That's just how I picture it in my head anyway - Garstka style = meinl, Portnoy style = Sabian, Cooperdrummer style = Zildjian, Joey Jordison style = Paiste
@milesfarnan9049
@milesfarnan9049 8 жыл бұрын
ThunderHawk606 Buddy Rich played a Paiste 402 ride, and that was while he was endorsed by Zildjian. Zildjian used to do some really great cymbals, and some of the better ones still sound amazing, it's just that anyone not endorsed by them needs to pay a fortune to get there hands on one and mienl and sabian are just better value.

Meinl is awesome at doing trash cymbals that sound like crap :D people say they are complex and modern, but its like every cymbal they go wrong with in the factory like overhammering, becomes something weird (some would say artsy) like these first hi-hats in the video that are the most unmusical hats i've ever heard xD im hating too much Edit: they've got some lovely cymbals anyways
