On the spice girls..."We did everything ourselves" "Home Made" "Home Grown" "It wasn't planned by anybody else but us", how time fogs the memory. There was an open audition of hundreds of girls in a manufactured attempt to create a Girl band to compete with the popular Boy bands of the time and fill a niche. Nothing organic or natural about it. Five strangers thrown together in an attempt to make money. This is not a dig at the Spice girls or even cynical manufactured pop music, it just irks me when people try to rewrite their history and play the audience for fools...

actually the truth was told. The story is, the management that held the audition made them live together in a house in Maidenhead. After almost a year and still no contract or record deal, they packed their bags and tracked down music exec Elliot Kennedy. The six of them started making music together, including Wannabe. Their manager went to be Simon Fuller. They were completely un manufactured until 1997. They felt as they were being told, so they fired Fuller to retrieve their Artistic Freedom

I understand what you mean... it initially started out like that, but they were uncontrolable by those first managers. They got away from those guys overnight... it takes guts to do that... you never hear that Geri wrote a lot of the songs, Mel B and Mel C came up with many of the dance moves, etc... It's unfair to say they weren't home made because what they initially were told to 'be' was not who they were so they broke free from that.
