OMG!! Mel is the greatest comedic talent-filmmaker that has ever lived!! I pray that he makes another film before the Good Lord calls him home to Heaven!! Genius comedic & creative talent like this is sorely missing in the movie industry!! 💘🎥

One of my all time favorite movies; must have seen it at least 100 times in the last 30 years. So incredibly quick and clever, every joke is well thought out and placed. Brooks is a national treasure!

I never caught this historically inaccurate line, “a little piece of India or Pakistan by chance.” Pakistan and India were not separated as countries until AFTER World War II when the British finally granted them independence.

Kind of. Though Pakistan was part of India until 1947, it was still considered it own subdivision with in India. Kinda like the state of California within the United States of America

The word play on "the buck starts here" on the desk was a bit ahead of its time as well. (Pres. Truman had this saying on his desk after he took office near the end of World War II). This song was obviously written more for Americans in the 1980s then it was for Poles in the early 1940s. ;)

It's a movie, and there's something called artistic license, just saying.
I laughed at this movie years ago... At first my attitude was: sure, why not, make fun of any controversial topic. Then I thought about how much harm Hitler has done. And then asked myself: Does anyone have the moral right to portray a DEMONIC being (an incarnation of evil, who has caused So Much Suffering) as a funny character? For those belonging to future generations who will only see this: Does anyone have the moral right to imprint this beast in their memory as a funny character? I think he should be known for what he really was and for the inimaginable suffering he has inflicted. Today I don’t think like I used to think years ago, that we have the right to reset that harsh truth and add fun to it...

I still laugh to this day. This does nothing to humanize or portray Hitler as a funny person. This shows just how terrible Hitler was through comedy. It mocks Hitler in a delightful way.

And what business do you have telling someone that’s Jewish and fought the nazis what they can and can’t satirize or interpret? Mel brooks tries to heal through humour by portraying hitler as a Buffon whenever he appears in a production, similar to war propaganda. Other artists interpret differently, survivors, their children, and those who fought the nazis all coped in different ways
