Mel Gibson is one of the greatest actors of the last 40 years. Without question. He is also one of the greatest directors. His drunken rant and subsequent fall from grace will never diminish his many artistic highs. After all, we've all made fools of ourselves when inebriated. Only the weak judge. I'm delighted to see Mel on top form again.

@@jimv5731 actually he is quite understated.. i suspect its because he is not much of a gameplayer, plus while he has that notorious wild side that comes out when he is drunk, when he is sober he is mister conventional and deeply religious (christian Orthodox if i recall). i suspect his persona and beliefs challenge Hollywood - you have scientology rule and then you have the Jewish rule.. the average down on your knees praying is kind of out of place in Hollywood. He has taken on roles i think that people in the US aren't aware of (made in Australia before the 'big break') they all absolutely challenge a persons belief system of what is ethical and unethical. He was already pretty big before he went to work in the US because of his success in Australia. Not so much by reputation i guess but cashed up enough to have choices.

He seems to have tried hard to become a better dad, a better husband and overall a better and just human being. He fought, struggled, fell and got up to say sorry to some he hurt, but never did it with bad intentions. He have seen unjust behavior and manners and wanted to speak out. Now, he knows that if you cannot handle bad stuff around you, it can eat you alive.

And to this day., "The Patriot" is my favorite movie. I don't care what he spewed as a person "off PAID camera". He's a person and he can articulate his personal thoughts as he wish....good, bad or indifferent. That does not, however, diminish his ability to act on camera and produce an extraordinary piece of work in film.

The best acting Mel ever did was Lethal Weapon 2 when he had to pretend like the white South Africans were the villains. 😂 Hollywood was trying to be woke even way back then.

Well that's because durin' that time they were, there was apartheid (I'm a hardcore Conservative and even I don't support that shit), I can't speak for the whole Afrikaaner population at the time, but the majority of them supported it, the government, the police, and military were pretty much a fascist regime towards the blacks and they were horrible to 'em, kinda the way the limey South Africans were to the Boor, and the Boor were actually the true original Afrikaaners, cause they were the Dutch settlers who originally settled there, anyway the South Africans in LW-2 were a South African drug and smuggling cartel who cloaked themselves in the cloak of bein' diplomats, hardly good representation of true Afrikaaners.

I have always been a Mel Gibson fan. Sure, he stepped on himself and he has his own “boulder” to carry but who who hasn’t and who doesn’t? If you raise your hand in answer to that question I feel for you. Your day is coming. He picked himself up, he brushed himself off, he showed us his soft underbelly. I respect him enormously. I thankful for sharing his incredible gifts with us. I wish him the very best. I hope he knows he has nothing to prove to anyone and can find respite if he hasn’t already. He has a depth to him that resonates like an echo chamber. I look forward to enjoying many more of his masterpieces. In closing I would just like to say: “FREEEEEEEEEEEEEDOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMM!!!!
