Hey Stefano, I found your very quick presentation of the Drawn and parametric mask really useful. To be honest i was blown away. I have been growing in my understanding of masks very slowly. And would like to see more on that mask please. Also the rapid delivery is hard to keep up with. A little slower would help a lot especially as I am still getting my head around masks. I loved the treatment of this image and I am grateful for your sharing this video.

Thanks again! Ahahah Graham, I should start one of the next videos with a "DT Mask", Zorro style. That would be hilarious LOL

Hi Stefano ! I wanted to thank you for this video, because you explained your workflow in 3 simple step, this give my ideas to build a modulegroups in Darktable. I'm always confused of the order of the modules i Darktable compared to other software. So I did a comparison video, and cited you and this video. Just wanted to share with you :)

I don't really have a problem with manipulation if it's to remove unwanted objects (power lines, trash, mother-in-law, etc.) but I don't like it when things are added in. By the way, the strong back-lighting in this video is kinda cool. It gives it a nice orton effect. 😊

Thanks Tom. The great thing about that back light is that it's all natural, so I don't need to muck around with studio lights. Totally agree on the photo manipulation, especially the part of the mother in law🤣

I like your editing very much! As long as manipulation is done to an image in an effort to emphasize what was really there at the time, there is nothing to be said against it. Creating something, that wasn't there at the time of the shot is what I don't do. However, i believe every single person has to figure out their Limits on their own.

Thanks Daniel. I am totally with you. Photo manipulation would be a video subject by itself 😁 I think to all the photos I have seen during the pandemic here in Australia made with a 600mm lens to compress space and emphasise a big crowd at the beach when instead people were keeping their distance. That's more manipulation of reality to me

Thank you so much for this video. I think manipulation is fine but there should be some rules. If you're just touching here and there I think it's ok to conceal, but if it's something that's blurring the border between a photo and a collage then it should be made clear that the photo has been manipulated. I also have a technical request. I'd love to add light leaks to my digital photos using darktable. So far my attempts have crashed and burned, in part because this is a hobby I do all on my own sand don't have the vocabulary to know what I want. Can you show us how you'd approach adding light leaks?

In the end all photos are manipulation. Deciding to press the shutter "now" and not "now" manipulates what is viewed. So as long as it is clear it does not represent a particular truth (I agree with Tom Patten) it is good. The viewer needs to be media literate enough to distinguish between journalism and art
How to add a light source in darktable [using a quick mask]
