This is an incredible cover. It might be your best yet. This song dredged up a memory I hadn't thought about in quite a while- I had a coworker at a summer job once who was a kind of pedantic, well read older man who seemed really out of place washing dishes at a pizza place. He would talk to me a lot about books and classic movies because I was the honors student of the teenagers, and I guess he felt I was the person he had most in common with. Well, I remember once towards the end of the summer, he stopped me as I was heading back to the front and he said "You're a bright kid, but I hope you're careful. Creative types, writers and artists, they all carry a gloom inside of them. Watch out." It really startled me, especially because the year before I'd had a lot of trouble with just that sort of despair. I think about it sometimes when it's late and night and I'm drawing, or I've taken a break from writing. But I hadn't thought about it in a while.

I find it incredibly ironic that you upload a cover of this song literally a day after I'd finally managed to get over my most recent bout of depression... I swear, Oktavia, it's like you know which songs we need and when we need them. Your voice is honestly just the most wonderful balm for whenever I feel particularly down or depressed (which is probably why I listen to your covers 24/7 lol) and I am so thankful that you exist and that you've decided to grace us with your wonderful presence. I don't really know how to say this but getting a notification from you for a new cover always means so much to me??? Like wow I love you.

@yohann40486 жыл бұрын
Fallen Star Dude! Read it! It’s a work by Osamu Dazai, a famous writer who committed suicide sometime during his career. “No Longer Human”, from what I understand, seems to be some sort of indirect autobiography of his own life and feelings.

Often I’ve fallen victim to a thought or two Screaming “Just leave, you’ve got nothing to lose.” Shedding my friends, my school and my job, the only cost If I agree, then does it mean that I’m the one lost? Passing the masses at Keio alone, aloud comes a shout Calling a wallet gone is a tearful girl tearing around The train arrives and her cries quickly die to the crowd They’d rather worry, better hurry to an open seat As for me, I see the meaning found in meaningless now I play my part and march onward with these heartless machines Somebody call my name, it’s all that I wish to share Why is it each day I turn the page only brings on tears?* Spinning twisting head, let visions build while I’ve still space to dream Dashing from the dark up to the stars as far as they may be Before my pouring tears betray me Ah, my favorite author- please read him as well, each work has a world to spell Even if I falter as I’m recounting how he killed himself “My life was one big mistake that I couldn’t take.” “So many faults, they’re all my fault, I lied and lie in shame.” “God, what a gloomy man!” I tried to laugh, but deep inside, I don’t know- I just can’t get his words to go from my mind Somebody let me listen to your distant voice here On this shaking train, if silence stays, I may disappear I just want to sail beyond the rails to the moon’s side unseen Never going back, I’m going back so I can try to keep** The time when you were still beside me Dear Mr. Author: Will I follow in your lead? Until the ink runs out, bleeding words for someone else to breathe? Your life was “one big mistake”- we don’t share that take I find it false, ‘cause faults aside, we all recall your life And even if it were true, I’d still prefer to be you Over the boy seeking comfort from your words left behind Somebody call my name, it’s all that I ask to hear Why is it each day I turn the page only brings on tears?* Soon I’ll say goodbye to earthly ties, escape from my restraints If you have the key to set me free, then please unlock the cage So I can fly away Ah, away

Oh! This actually falls in line with what I've thinking. I personally thought that it was about Akutagawa and the boy singing was actually Dazai. I think Dazai looked up quite a lot to Akutagawa and he was extremely devastated when he learned that Akutagawa killed himself, causing him to fall into despair and be known as how he currently is. Or was.

@ginundr4 жыл бұрын
@@yohann4048 The lyrics where the singer says his favorite author commited suicide are followed by quotes are from Dazai Osamu's book 'No Longer Human' so I dont believe the song is from Dazai's perspective. Just to clairfy, the actual lyrics in this english version are not the actual quotes translated from Japanese (they were changed a bit so they would fit with the song)

I am astonished to find this song in your collection of covers. Mostly because this is one of the few songs I enjoy but don't see many who've done their take on it. Such a missed opportunity it was until now... When I first heard this song, it was during a torrential time in my life. When things feel impossible and there's no one to really tell them to. So instead I would numb myself with the act of reading and avoid this feeling altogether. It worked for a while but it didn't fix the badness. Even now after moving on from that past, it still haunts me to remember these trying times when in reality it's never really stopped. But I digress, we all have our ways to cope with the sorrow that daily life brings. Sorry to ramble but I'm really glad I found your channel now, this was worth finding and the breath of life you spun into the words of this song made it feel new again. Thank you Ms. Oktavia! (^.^)b
