The field trip thing about "Katarina" is about the contrast between what her mother was going to name her when she was in the womb ( katarina = pure light) and what she ended up naming her the minute she was born (Melanie = darkness). I really love her music, like Crybaby shows the toxicity in family, K12 shows toxicity in school, and After School shows mainly relationship issues with it starting off with toxicity in careers. Then all of them have parts with insecurities and relationships issues. And with Portals, it shows her growth, independence and confidence but still willing to be in a relationship if it’s healthy. It’s all great.

Being attached brings new experiences, growth, learning, companionship, and happiness with others, but sometimes it can be overbearing or there can be people who hurt you or use you, so you want to be alone and guard yourself. Maybe you're also just an introvert. On the flip side, however, being alone and detached means you won't learn and grow from the world around you, you could become lonely and depressed, and you may even get bored of just your own company, but at least you can take a break from the world to self-reflect, guard yourself from the pain of others, and keep yourself productive instead of just socializing and playing around. So, should we be glued up or glueless?

People were mentioning that chord progression was played when crybaby was in trouble. i really hope you see this!! im a huge fan of your melanie series and a huge fan of melanie herself, and i want to help u out!! id recommend pulling the lyrics up on the wiki on the side for yourself (the melanie martinez fandom wiki is the most likely place to find the most accurate lyrics) as these lyric videos are always wrong, theres been several times where the lyrics were wrong on these and the meaning was changed and thats why some things didnt make sense you!! i want you to be able to experience melanies songs to the fullest because her lyrics touch my heart so so deeply and i know youll appreciate them. love your work!! have an amazing day🩷

Of course there is also a deeper meaning to interpret in all of Melanie's songs though. Numbers is about how the music industry works and how they just look at artists just a money machine for their own gain. How they don't have the freedom to create but what works to get the company money instead. Which is why she came on saying, "I'm just a number" in pain, showing it can cost damage if you just treat them like a number. Then the bakery is actually about where she used to work in a bakery to make money for her music!

13:00 my top three are family, communication and understanding. I love my family and would do anything for them if I’m able to, I put them above anyone. I’m the kind of person who wants to understand directions or a situation, which is why I need communication with others. I need literal specifics. I’m very understanding and open minded with others, and I want others to be like that with me. If they aren’t, and they aren’t my family, then I don’t want them in my life, especially if they aren’t willing to change for the better.
