Slowed remixes originates from DJ Screw in 1990. He literally used screws to slow down cassette tapes. He then started slowing down vinyl records and mixing the audio so it repeats sections in rhythm with the song's tempo giving a psychedelic echo effect. This style of remixes were then dubbed "Chopped and Screwed" in honor of DJ Screw. But if the song was just slowed down it would be called simply "screwed." So this is nothing new. Slowing down new music is still screwed. But since its different in that now people add reverb. It can be a subgenre of screwed. Screwed Core or Vibe Screw is my vote. To honor the late DJ Screw, R.I.P.

The "syrup", in this case, is actually alcohol, an allusion to Cry Baby's mother's alcoholism. Putting an alcoholic drink in a sippy cup doesn't mean it's no longer alcohol. No matter how much a person may try to dress up a situation, in the end, the problem persists. The lyric, "Kids are still depressed when you dress them up" describes how no matter what we do on the outside, our inner feelings remain the same.
