I've been following Melanie since she competed on The Voice. She's been one of the only artist on the voice who has managed to make a career out of it, even though she didn't even win on her season. Her aesthetics are very consistent and her music is *chefs kiss. She's also a total sweetheart. Seen her in concert once and it was heavenly. I usually group her in the realm of alternative pop music, i.e. with artist such as Lana Del Rey

Melanie Martinez is kinda in the category of anti-pop like Lorde and Billie and has been around just as long but now that the genre is getting more popular because many more artist are growing in that aspect she’s being more known by many other people. Melanie has a creepy cute retro nursery rhyme aesthetic, and her music is just more fascinating considering that they all have a story. Should definitely check out her other vids but her other unreleased music is just amazing. I definitely recommend Bombs on Monday if your curious to listening to her unreleased music 😭👏💖✨

3:20 those are rabbits representing her bunny she had when she was younger, when she was younger she had a bunny and she bought a puppy and she had to decide which pet to keep so she kept the puppy and gave the bunny to her friend. a few days later she found the bunny’s head in her friend’s neighbours backyard

Sorry for the late comment! Just wanted to explain the rabbits. When Melanie was little, her first pet was a rabbit. Her parents then decided to get a dog for the family and Melanie had to choose between the rabbit or the dog. She choose the dog and gave the rabbit to a friend who already had a few rabbits. The rabbits are left unoccupied for a few days and so the next time they see the rabbits, they find the friend's rabbit unharmed but Melanie's rabbit decapitated. The rabbits in all her music videos are to remember her first childhood pet. Also the song is legit about a bakery. It is to resemble the one she worked at so she could kickstart her music business. LOL.
