Melbourne was overcrowded pre-pandemic, deserted during the pandemic lockdowns and is vibrant but not overcrowded post-pandemic. It is just right for the time being.
@cgeez28752 жыл бұрын
The figures show 42k people have left the city during lockdowns, not suprising seeing that Victoria has the worst government in Australia. Absolute Nanny state here.
@MrACSRC2 жыл бұрын
@@cgeez2875 from another perspective it's a win-win for everyone. Those who left Melbourne left for something they want more than what Melbourne can provide. Those who stayed in Melbourne stayed for the things that are important to them which they might lose elsewhere. Overall, more room for everyone involved and better population distribution across Australia.

I lived there for 23 years and left in 2013 when the place started to get over crowded and becoming more expensive. Had a well paid job and could have stayed, but I had enough of the crowds and traffic. The city’s vibe is unique, trouble is more and more people are finding out about it and moving there. I loved the time I lived there and the city will always be close to my heart.

As a queenslander there has been so many people moving interstate from Melbourne and Sydney over the past two years of the pandemic. Which I don't understand, Melbourne is such a dynamic city compared to Brisbane. I guess when you can sell your house in Melbourne and Buy two in Queensland it's good choice. But the lifestyle and nightlife seems so much more desirable in Melbourne, very jealous actually.
@AusValue2 жыл бұрын
even better to move overseas, any young person buying at these prices for lifetime of debt has rocks in their head. But I guess this is also reflected in Australia's revised birthrate of 1.55 children per women and plummeting each year
@Qwoap2 жыл бұрын
@@AusValue big jump, declining birthrate is a worldwide phenomenon with developed nations. I don't think there a correlation between house prices and birth rates.

@@Qwoap there was a recent study in Australia showing that anyone that rents is less likely than ever before to have children, can’t find the article to share but it’s pretty easy to believe it to be true. Anyone that doesn’t own a home in this country and is on average wage… not a good future compared to 20 years ago
@Qwoap2 жыл бұрын
@@AusValue Oh right sorry i didn't know that, your right renting certainly makes it difficult to have children. This country does need to get it's self sort with it's housing affordability, or offer more social housing. I feel very lucky to be young and own my place but I want all my friends my age to be in the position as me. And if that results in a drop in rate of return on my house that I would probably take it. Although I doubt this is the majority of Australians opinion. Especially if you have $1 million dollar mortgage.

Melbourne was once very diverse, now it's China. I miss the old Melbourne from early 2000 till 2017 everything was great. Now, Victoria has turned into a police state. The healthcare system has become of low quality since the pandemic. You get too many fines while driving, the roads are set in a way so they can easily fine you. The Chinese have taken over. Banks and shops are mostly being operated by the Chinese who can barely speak English. It's painful to deal with them when you walk into high-end shops or call the bank. You struggle to understand their English. I don't understand why Chinese people being from a highly developed country like China is flooding this country. I understand why people from poor, underdeveloped countries move here, but not sure why people from developed nations like China move here. Even the Indians left during the pandemic. Since the pandemic, Melbourne has been *invaded* by the Chinese.
