Should’ve asked him about CTSA Dave, a chapter in the history of transit policing that few know about, will soon be completely lost and few today (or at the time) would believe
@generationexodus1783
@generationexodus1783 Жыл бұрын
what can you share on it?"
@terrafullius
@terrafullius Жыл бұрын
@@generationexodus1783 It’s not really my place to talk about it coz I was never a writer, but fugg it. As I heard it, the CTSA was a group of Transit Police. I don’t mean the “Gumbys” employed by the train service; they were Victoria Police whose responsibility was Melbourne’s transit system, particularly the train network. They would walk the tracks at night, just like the graffiti artists they were trying to catch, ideally in the act of doing a piece. They began to carry spray paint cans on these prowls, and would “vandalise” pieces on the train tracks, especially pieces done by artists they were familiar with, both personally and by reputation. These police came up with their own tags, and named their crew CTSA, ie. Cops Trashin Subway Art. I remember seeing this myself from the train, especially on the older parts of the train network where there were more underground tunnels. There’d be a nice piece that had been painted over with a big “CTSA” and signed with the tag of that particular cop. I wish I could remember the tags. Not that any of this is particularly amazing, but you try explaining to someone on the train that that piece on the wall has been painted over with “CTSA” was actually vandalised by police… it sounds like utter bulltish. Eventually they arrested one of my mates (R.I.P. Ewen Gibson) who pled guilty to a tag that wasn’t even his; if they’d been able to pin his real tag on him, “WHEN”, he would’ve done jail for it.

Great show. Abit of history about breakdancing in Melbourne. Dad was in New York early 70s and having migrated to Melbourne early 80s there was a breakdancing crew he hung out with so it was out in Melbourne quite earlier. It became popular again later on with all the movies that come out middle eighties. 👍

I feel a wee bit uneasy telling dude his own business, but it's Ephesians 6:12. I had some beautiful souls bless my house before I did a 2yr lag on false allegations. They read that verse out during the blessing. I went away probably a month later & that verse got me through my worst days in there. Still blows my mind mind that Melbourne had a heroin epidemic. Really sad. Massive respect to our friend for getting himself through it 💜🙏🏻✌️

Love this nostalgia about graff crews back in the day. Never managed to get to Melbourne. Newy had like MOC, KOC & AMF’s. All burners. Remember going down to Sydney with a couple people when we were like 16. Ran into a crew called the High Rollers or HR. These guys meant business. Real professional urchers. All the tools. Didn’t give a fuck at all. Hurt a lot of people along the way in the space of one night. Seen a bloke get pumped and his wallet stolen quicker than Tyson hits. Sprayed anywhere they wanted. Can’t believe we kept our shoes. After a night of crazy stuff they ended up bluing between themselves on darling harbour and we got the fuck outta there haha.

Tubby and Raffles far out man i haven't heard those 2 names in ages. It used to be Tubby, Zolton & Raffles. Tubby dropped his tag when he ended up going to a private school and in typical teenage naivety i thought he turned into a snob, I think he wanted to become a doctor and i hope he achieved his goal too. Dunno what happened to Raffles & Zolton but all 3 of them were from the Prahran area & Prahran/Windsor back n in the early 80's was nothing like it is today it's heaps better it's more vibrant but with street beggers. Tagging the red rattlers was fun back in the day, looking back they were classic old trains with brass fittings all over the inside of the carriages, we shoulda just smashed the ugly blue and the new silver trains... 😆 As young teenagers we just didn't give a fuck as is normal for that age.

Definitely right about the system, how does one stop doing crime when the very system encourages it? The legal system also is set up for the rich, think of how many boys have been convicted of a crime because they couldn't afford a decent lawyer/barrister? The legal system is classist, and your very life may depend on your lawyers or lack thereof, everyone should have equal representation, it shouldn't be held back by whether you're rich or poor.
