Celebrating the Year of the Snake, Melbourne's Big Sunday was alive with festivities. The Millennium Dai Loong Dragon, a highlight since 2003, gracefully made its way through Chinatown. This dragon replaced the original Dai Loong from 1978 and now resides at the Chinese Museum when not parading. The museum, located at 22 Cohen Place, features a unique Dragon Gallery where the Millennium Dragon is displayed.
The day's excitement continued with performances from groups like the Chinese Youth Society of Melbourne (CYSM), Hung Gar Yau Shu Martial Arts School, and the Chinese Masonic Society (CMS), Melbourne's oldest lion dance team active since the 1940s. Their lion dances and martial arts displays showcased the city's rich cultural heritage.
For those interested in visiting, the Chinese Museum is located at 22 Cohen Place, Melbourne VIC 3000. You can find it nestled in the heart of Chinatown, accessible via Little Bourke Street or Lonsdale Street. The museum is open daily from 10 am to 4 pm, except on public holidays.
