Hi, I am almost sure the Dagwood dog is named after a famous American cartoon character 'Dagwood Bumstead'.There is certainly a Dagwood sandwich. Dagwood and his wife Blondie were very well known in newspaper cartoons starting in the 1930's and there was a tv series in the late 1950's and they are still being published to this day i believe. I am surprised there hasn't been a remake movie by now. Dagwood used to make giant sandwiches which some places then started making in real life.

When I went to the show this year I booked an after dark ticket, and I found I had a waaay better time doing it that way! The rides look so much cooler at night, there's a fireworks show, there's less kids, and the vibe just shifts to a more adult feel. Plus the ticket is cheaper!! A few of the animal pavillions are closed though, so if that's a huge draw for you the day ticket might be worth sticking with. Worth considering for next year :)

Glad you got to the show. My old mum would tell you that when she was young show bags were free or some cost a penny. They also have things like Monster trucks ECT.

I’ve only been twice despite living a ten minute walk away from the Showgrounds. The only thing I saw this year was the dog show. Next year going to experience the whole show including getting a show bag, food, seeing the market pavilion and going on a ride, probably the Ferris wheel.

I have always wondered if The Royal Melbourne Show is like what you call the State Fair in The States?

@@coffeeenut thanks for the reply and I love seeing the dogs and cats on show at The Royal Melbourne Show I would see the Labradors and the Great Danes. I have a 12 month old black Lab called Elvis and he is next to me all the time and he has chewed up everything.

The price of the rides is probably due to insurance. But $30 a ride is a bit much.😮

$30 a ride? That's terrible! $10 yes, $20 maybe, but $30 no thanks. I wonder how much insurance companies are charging them or whether they are just ripping people off??
