one major criticism to the HCMT is its crappy speaker I don't know is the manufacturer keep using the primitive megaphone-type speaker or not , but most of the stop announcement is mushed, even most of the non-programmed announcement are hardly recognized if not being concentrated , like the good old comeng's, while the newer fleets and the life extended comengs with new display are much clear than this train otherwise it's an interesting and comfortable train despite having a weird motor sound in geek's perspective

@sniper.93c142 жыл бұрын
Their rated speed is up to 130kmh which once they are the only ones on the outer suburban areas, I would not be surprised if they are allowed to reach such high speeds out to Sunbury, melton (when it’s electrified), and Pakenham, - I’m not so sure about the speeds on Cranbourne line since VLine doesn’t operate there but I imagine you could run fast there too with enough space
@markjones76873 жыл бұрын
Hmm, I'm sure I can remember a couple of Tait trains operating on the Hurstbridge line well after the last of the Harris trains had been from service. I'm not saying they were part of the regular service line up, and I was surprised to see one at Westgarth, but still, I think a couple were around until the late 1990s.

That would not be true at all. The last ones were retired in 1984. You probably bumped into a heritage tour as opposed to an actual service.

HCMT’s should replace about half of the Comeng’s I think since there are 90 6 car Comeng’s, so I’d assume if there are only gonna be 25 xtrap 2.0’s in the first order they’ll need maybe 40-50 more HCMT’S to replace them.

The Metro Tunnel is on track to be completed by 2025 and it will have the Sunbury, Cranbourne and Pakenham Lines running through it. Also it will have direct airport connection via the Melbourne Airport Rail Link by 2029. There is also the Suburban Rail Loop which is a 90 km rail line from Cheltenham to Werribee via Melbourne Airport. It’s still 3 decades away from completion, but half of it from Cheltenham to Melbourne Airport will be underground with SRL driverless trains.

Since the Melbourne X'Trapolis trains are designated the 100 series, would it be right to designate the 2.0 trains the 200 series? Also if they follow the letter configuration (xxxM/xxxT) they would likely start from 1001M and 3001T, or possibly D would be used for the Driving Motor cars
@MetroManMelbourne3 жыл бұрын
200 series quite a possible name. Because the sets consist of 2x as many trailer cars as motor cars (2 powered 2 unpowered) I have a feeling there might be some change to the numbering system. Alternatively, they could use numbers from (by that point) scrapped Comeng sets.

Have all stations been designed for disability access. Parliament is not. Lift one end and disability access the other. Laburnum Station does not have a raised platform. Nunawading does but there is no cover from the weather. Why are train floors not level with platforms? Drivers must put down metal ramps for access.

a lot of the HCMTs will actually supplement the existing fleet, but trains can only last a certain time before they need to be replaced (in regular service) so some of them that are now 40 years old need to be replaced

Yet another Labor project which relies on spin and propaganda. The new trains are not high capacity. They should be called Andrews trains. Any train can be made high capacity by expanding the number of carriages and building a new line to fit them. We had a true high-capacity train in 1992, before we imported UK managers. As noted by the supplier: removing seats increases capacity. I did ride the packed public one in 2012. If I had been blindfolded, I couldn't have guessed what I was riding. What is needed for capacity increase is better signalling: something which PTV refuses to do.
@MetroManMelbourne3 жыл бұрын
They are high capacity - some 40% higher than current trains.
