Taking My Bird To The Vet | What To Expect | VLOG

Big thanks to links animal road clinic for allowing us to film! I wanted to show you guys what a general checkup at the vet looks like and should look like. Luza was a great example since she is so calm, every bird varies. She was cared for with the utmost respect, professionalism and so gentle. She got her nails and beak trimmed, a good inspection of her body and her heart rate and lung sounds. Its important to bring your parrot to an Avian Vet for general checkups every 6 months to a year. Having a bird means accepting the costs as well and having that money on hand too.

when i took my quaker to the vet they told me he was the best-behaved bird they had. he definitely isn't an angel at home so i was shocked lol!

I find it so interesting how they calm down when wrapped in a towel. Do you know why that is? My Rio isn't a big fan of the vet visits. He hides on my neck behind my head, because nobody could ever find him there 😂. Great video, really liked this one. Also love your carrier!

My Rio is also not fan of holding him in towels, he can let me hold normally but not in towels 😅

Im not sure its all birds. Luza is really good but Mango will fight for her life wrapped in there. They have a technique to hold them so they cant move their beak and bite so maybe it seems like some of them are calm but arnt if that makes sense?

I definitely need that carrier video, bc the second I put my Quaker in a carrier she put a hole in it😭 I have that exact carrier for my cockatiel and he doesn’t care about it. But my Quaker… lol it would be amazing if you could get that tutorial out🥰

Hi! I have a question for you, we have an elder cockatiel, found him 28years ago on the street. He is cage bound for a couple of years now, doesnt let us hold him, but we often sing, play and lets us pet him. He has never been to a vet, had no health issues but now he started to squint with his left eye, and then closes it. He can open it when singing and playing, but we should take him to a vet for sure. The problem is that he is terrified when we try to cover his cage, not used to that at all and im afraid that he might die from stress going to the vet in a car. we would use his own cage for the travel. What do you think? do you have any tips/recommendations? Thank you in advance

I would try a little bit at a few hours intervals throughout the day just to get them accustom, try and talk to them softly and give them a treat after each try. If you can get black out covers it would be even better so they cant see their surrounding or light and shut down a bit. Hope everything is okay and sorry for the late reply!

that carrier looks great! have any links anywhere for it? or just the name because I really want a carrier for my lovebird. Do you recommend I take him out on little trips? He loves exploring, but I'm scared the carrier might scare him..I had to transport him to a friend's house with me because we were told to evacuate my area and he seemed to like it outside.

All living things Bird Carrier :) you can take him outside in the carrier or even car rides :) its good to get them used to it especially if you live somewhere where evacuations happen

​@@mimisbirdhouse we don't usually have evacuations but it DOES happen since I live in a area with a lot of criminal records happening and anything can happen at ANY moment.. and we're planning on moving out soon because of this, I think it will be a good idea to get my bird used to a carrier so it will be less stressful when he is at the new house :) Another question: What if my bird gets thirsthy or hungry in the carrier? Should I carry a little bottle and box of his food around with the carrier? I saw a carrier with a built-in water and food station but this carrier looks good too :) I haven't watched your new video yet,I'll check it out!

That was great trip, luza behaved so well and it was nothing serious so it was great on it's own too. 🩷 I am jealous of you cuz u have many things like good vets which i don't have, your weather cuz i can't store my chop so i have to prepare it daily and now change it in like every 2 hours ( summer is just starting in our country and yet it's so hot already 😭 ). I have a que, like u said luza love chop so she maily eat her chop, just like that my birds also eat chop mostly like they eat around 30 to 40 g chop and then pellets, fruits, some walnuts and almonds and some millets as treat. Is that okay for their health. Their weight is 52 and 53 g, they are GCC and going to turn a year old in few days. Is their weigh okay or should i do something else 🥲 I hate to admit it but in our country their are not good vet facilities for birds and birds products, online products are also limited cuz people just feed them seeds but now bird proper care is spreading but still have a long way to go. Sry for the long cmnt but it'a been a while so i couldn't control myself 😅

Ah man I hope there comes better vet facilities to your country 🥺 Yes their diet sounds perfect! Their weight is a teeny bit under usually should be 60-80g but its okay as long as they are eating well ☺️

@@mimisbirdhouse i mean there's no prblm at all in their weight ? Their weight increase but at very low speed, like they only gained 4 g in 4 months. I weigh them every second day. They are physically strong, active almost all day. And now they have entered their puberty so they give me lots of bites on my body, be it my hand, leg, specially my neck 🥲. I can handle the bites but will get worried if they don't eat properly. Do my birds naturally have less weigh or am i doing something wrong?
