@@mimisbirdhouse I have question. What are you doing through the summer when temperature is very high, windows are open etc. We have pretty high temperatures already and I can't let Bruno out of the cage while I have open window...I was thinking about some sort of net in the window but I am not sure, and I doesn't want to keep him in the cage for the whole day - now I am letting him fly with breaks because when I close the window, room gets very hot in a few minutes at summer there will be around 30 degrees Celsius. I am also thinking letting him out of the cage early at the morning - when there is still cool temperature, then keeping him in, then later again let him fly...Summer will be more complicated than Winter ;) For sure I will put the cage outside too, but not for the whole day and not when there will be 37 degrees Celsius outside. i also think that video like that: how to keep your parrot cool during heatwave, would be great video :D

Hi ☺️ so its important to note gaining their trust is going to take time. They wont just step up immediately. If you follow the timestamp on this video you can find my tutorial on doing this and itll be easier for you because they already eat from your hand; kzbin.info/www/bejne/bHi1kKt8o6lkmtEsi=KBbhqNE98_axpXjq Letting them fly around is great! I personally like to keep their food and water on top of the cage or use this for the outside; a.co/d/87PZ8PI If you let them out be prepared to spend time and be patient. They will eventually come back on their cage. They will slowly become comfortable being out but the first few times they will be extra excited and want to explore, make sure to follow what i said by keeping the surroundings safe for them ☺️

My biggest one’s is lights on, windows closed, blinds or curtains drawn. If its been locked in a cage it may not have good flight ability or control. Keep the environment calm, quiet, and minimal people. The smallest thing could spook them.

I have a question 😅 I have a baby african grey (3 months old) and I keep him in my PC/office room - I'm in that room 90% of the day. He is on a perch outside of the cage most of the day. He sometimes flies to my chair to get scratches and attention. He is content overall. My main issue is when I have to put him in the cage if I go to the store or bathroom for example (I don't leave him outside of the cage unsupervised). He starts to scratch like a chicken in the corners of the cage until I take him out or climbs and flies/jumps from one top corner of the cage to the bottom perch. What can I do so he understands that sometimes he needs to stay in the cage for his own safety?
@mimisbirdhouse Жыл бұрын
Theres a few things you can do. 1. Give him a little treat when you put him in, say “ill be right back I love you” in a soft voice. 2. Keep some soft music in the background, classical or lofi, just something to make him feel like he has company. This is how I taught my birds and yes they still anticipate my return but they dont lose their mind waiting for me anymore

It was his first time flying so they probably dont have the muscle strength in their wings or stamina, the open beak and droopy wings can be from heat and exhaustion from flying. Theres no need to prevent it, just allow them to practice everyday and they will slowly build up the strength. Make sure the room isnt too hot and you can even leave a shallow bowl as a bath if they want to cool down. Eventually with practice they will get it ☺️

So make sure u pick a day where you can be there for multiple hours. Keep the doors closed, windows covered, keep the room quiet and calm. Dont make harsh or fast movements, limit it to just you in the room. Open the door and sit somewhere in the room. Speak softly to them. Let them out to explore, what I found helped was putting a treat at the top of the cage so they learnt to come back to the cage and hang out there as well. You can try to lure them into the cage by putting a treat inside. Try and let them go back in themselves for their water or food. If all else fails, shut off the lights and grab them with the towel. If you’re able to keep them out till sunset or their bedtime, then slowly turn off the lights and let them go back in to sleep
