Thank you for the opportunity to hear again the legendary chanting voices of Ka'upena Wong and Pele Kukui, daughter of the highly respected Mary Kawena Pukui.

Kupuna James Kaupena Wong has passed to the next world, at 93. He practiced 5 different traditions of chant under one of the greatest keepers of Native Hawaiian culture: Mary Kawena Pukui. His chants conveyed tremendous Mana [spiritual power]. Mahalo Nui Loa...😪💦Auwe

Thank you for this, as I continue to quest an understanding of who I am, what my place is, and adventure into living life in alignment with principles of Aloha, honoring that this is a part of my mixed-race ancestral lineage. So beautiful. Thank you for posting this.

Mr. Nakamura, my sixth grade teacher in SoCal, had a Hawaiian play at the end of every school year. He had been doing it for at least ten years before I took part. The "bigger" dudes in class were made the Kings of the different islands. I had two parts---one was the "King of Molokai," and the other was when I blew through my cupped hands to blow a "conch" shell call. We did the "Hawaiian War Chant" with the bamboo in synchronized rhythm on the wood stage floor. He was a very influential man, cool dude. Cheers.

Mahalo nui for posting this!! Any chance you could also post the album of chants, "Mele Oli: Chants from Ancient Hawai'i by Brothers Kanilau"? It doesn't seem a digital version exists. These are such cultural treasures and we thank you for uploading this precious album here for us to listen & remember!

@nevaeh230 Yes you are 💯 accurate! Although our ancestors didn't need the scientific proof, current evidence says we are all from African descent.❤
