It says right in the DVD (on both DVDs, actually) 'this DVD will not teach you how to scream, it will teach you how to use the scream you already have without injuring your vocal chords and to increase your vocal stamina and live gigging ability'. However 90% of the kids who just want a free pass looked right past that and said 'oh you taught all these great bands to scream! I want mine! gimme gimme gimme!'

@Amorphon actually that excercise is extremely helpful for streching the facial tissue and prepping it to growl in my case
@CraigBrittain15 жыл бұрын
Melissa Cross has been around way before the DVDs were out. If you weren't a pro you wouldn't know she was a vocal coach but she has actually over 20 years of professional coaching which also explains her classical training methods, scales, etc. If you notice, her training is just like classical training, only it's for screams instead of harmonics. It will actually also make your harmonics stronger.
@cmxsevenfoldxmc15 жыл бұрын
Melissa Cross develops specific vocal warm ups for select singers. This one is for the BFMV singer. They're mainly to sing and scream your lungs out and not screw up your throat (allowing you to do your screaming and singing for longer) Was that what you were asking?

Have you ever seen the entire dvd? She goes through a million warmups, then she shows vids of other people screaming. The closest thing to screaming she goes through is in the Heat and Fire chapter, where the Fire resembles a vocal fry.
@ICee515 жыл бұрын
@acdcx512 She's not a metal artist, she teaches you how to scream effectively and amplify your screams without destroying your vocal cords. She's mentored tons of mainstream artists. Don't make her personal sound as a deal breaker to checking out her warmups

@TheRandomnessofAandP Yea. ive got their Poison Live DVD and the intro to this vid is Scream Aim Fire, which I can almost play, and since i know the words to the song by heart, i can focus on playing the guitar and let the words just come out on their own. Thats how i do alot of the songs i play.

It's actually more helpful to people who have experience gigging, if you actually do the exercises. Being a guy who screams, but also a guy who actually has seen and participated in several classical training sessions for harmonic/melodic vocals, I can tell you that if you've ever seen a serious harmonic/melodic vocal coaching DVD or been part of a vocals class, that 90% of this is the same stuff they teach you there, with slightly different methods for creating noise

Second inlet on both DVDs: This DVD does not actually teach you how to scream. However once you develop even a marginal scream, the exercises, warmups and ideas expressed in this DVD are VERY, VERY legitimate, with roots in classical music training/vocal coaching. So basically, lock yourself in a room until you can scream without hurting your throat, find where your diaphragm, windpipe, throat, and lungs are, where your center of breath is - Then come back and watch these.

That...was Randy Blyhte...*facepalm* Maybe the Video poster referred to the fact that this is the warm-ups that Matt uses? Because Blythe did mention 'playing guitar and vocals at the same time...'.
@TommyJonesVHS12 жыл бұрын
Hey Mr. Blunt...What you are referring to is not Randy's warmup, but what Machine had him do for a certain part during the recording of Sacrament. He wanted a breathy straining vocal and the best way to get that was to make him out of breath and tired by running around the perimeter of the studio, then back in directly to the mic and track that part. FYI Randy is one of Melissa's "original" clients. He will also tell you that her training works and he uses it. PS. Dutchies are better.

when you sing or scream you use your facial muscles. When you stretch these muscles, you've warmed up your face and can sing better. That's why Cross showed that face exercise. And the same thing applies to tongue

I really want to know if there is a way to be able to scream well, and also be able to sing, especially later in life, will screaming, even this kind of screaming, destroy your voice eventually? or is there a way to be able to do both? every singer that screams in their songs normally ends up eventually losing their voice, is there a way to prevent that?
