I always have to play with something like this multiple times to learn and fine tune the effect I'm looking for. It's all part of the fun! I will say that it's a little easier when the black ink pad and versamark are kind of on the dry side. If you have brand new, juicy ink pads you'll likely get more ink on your piece that you may want. I hope that helps!
@elainewhite93617 жыл бұрын
That could be the problem especially with the black as it is a pad that has only been used a couple of times ,Thanks for the tip.

Here's a link to the copper foil in my Online store in case you just have to have it: www.stampinup.com/ecweb/product/142020/copper-foil-sheets We also carry Silver, Gold, Champagne and Black Foils too. Do you know what ink I can use now since the SU archival ink is no longer available? Will the memento work for this?
@MelissasCraftingTreehouse6 жыл бұрын
The Jet Black StazOn works perfectly for this technique as well because it is also a permanent ink that will work on non-porous surfaces. In my experience memento will not work for this. Have fun playing with it. I hope you have a blast.

Hi there, great technique and beautiful cards. I don’t have the Stampin’Up archival basic black ink. Which ink can I use for this technique? I have memento pigment ink, tuxedo black, and versafine black. Can you use one of these? Greetings from Holland!
@MelissasCraftingTreehouse6 жыл бұрын
Renate Krassenburg so glad you like the technique! You can Use StazOn as a replacement for the archival black. I do not recommend momento. I’m not familiar with the versatile black. You just need a permanent ink that will dry on a nonporous surface.

I love your cards and techniques. You come up with some great ideas. One question...why would Stampin Up remove a popular product that is so neat to use? I don’t get it?
@neet5206 жыл бұрын
I keep trying this technique - love it - but I get a section down the centre that does not have any "ice" on it. Obviously I am missing putting the Versamark on here - but cannot see what I am doing wrong to get it like this. Any ideas please?
@MelissasCraftingTreehouse6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment Anita. I'm so glad you are enjoying the technique. I know getting the versamark on the foil, just right, is tricky simply because it's a clear ink. Mine turn out different every time. One thing that might help is to use a small bit of adhesive on a few spots on the backside of your foil cardstock so you won't have to hold it down. That way it might be easier to see where you're placing the versamark as you run it over the surface. Also, if you're missing a spot you can always add another layer of versamark and clear embossing powder to fill in any gaps in the "ice". I would just suggest playing with it more. If you're like me, you'll most likely love some, and just like others, but they will all turn out unique and fun in their own way. I hope this helps and I'll look forward to hearing back!
@lyndasoar43456 жыл бұрын

Help Melissle can you please tell me what kind of paper you used and I can’t get the striation to come out it comes out very shiny what am I doing wrong.
@MelissasCraftingTreehouse6 жыл бұрын
The paper used here is Silver Foil by Stampin' Up!. Using the Silver Foil is a very important part of making the technique work. By the way, there's a complete supply list with link to my online store in the blog post here: www.stampinup.net/esuite/home/thecraftingtreehouse/blog?directBlogUrl=%2Fblog%2F60800%2Fentry%2Fblack_ice_technique_with_waterfront As for the striations, the trick is a VERY, VERY LIGHT touch when applying the Versamark Ink Pad. I have also done a second video that you might find helpful focusing on some additional nuances of achieving the Black Ice effect. Here is a link to that video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aprNlKysiKh1a6c I hope this is helpful! Have fun playing. Each time you try the technique it will turn out different. That is definitely the case with me. I hope you'll get some effects that you love! Happy Crafting Judy!

Why can't you hold the pads horizontally to cover the entire area. Great demo, thanks
@MelissasCraftingTreehouse6 жыл бұрын
You can definitely hold the pad horizontally if you want. I think I hold it the other way because it's easier to hold the narrow way for my hand. Thanks for commenting. I always enjoy learning from others and I'd not really thought too much about why I hold it the narrow way before your comment. Have fun playing with it and have a great day!

i tried this and could not get the ink to dry well enough to put the embossing ink over it without smearing. i tried archival ink and dried it w the dryer and it just would not dry! then i tried on stazon, and the same thing happened. what am i doing wrong? help! thanks!
@MelissasCraftingTreehouse6 жыл бұрын
simone mcloughlin are u using a heat tool to dry it? A regular hair dryer is not hot enough to do the trick. If you are in fact using a heat tool the only other thing I can think of is that your ink pads are very wet and therefore not drying. Both archival black and StazOn should work. I hope this helps!
@sm-kt9ho6 жыл бұрын
i tried both methods of drying... and waited for air dry for an hour.... pad not very wet ... i will keep trying! thanks for the info!

I;ve tried this over and over, the ink will NOT dry. What brand of papers/foils are you using?
@MelissasCraftingTreehouse6 жыл бұрын
I use Stampin' Up! Foils and Jet Black StazOn or Archival Black Ink. You may want to confirm you're using the correct ink to start with. BTW, Memento Black is NOT the same as Jet Black StazOn. I know one person who thought it was the same. Have you tried using your heat tool, on a low setting or for a short time (if you only have one setting) to dry the black ink? Here are a few links to these products: Silver Foil: www.stampinup.com/ecweb/product/132178/silver-foil-sheets?dbwsdemoid=60800 AND Jet Black StazOn: www.stampinup.com/ecweb/product/101406/jet-black-st%C4%81zon-ink-pad?dbwsdemoid=60800 I'm so sorry you're having trouble with this and hope the details I've provided helps! Let me know how it goes. :-)

Woud think stazon would work also
@MelissasCraftingTreehouse7 жыл бұрын
You can definitely use StazOn for this technique! Stampin' Up! no longer sells StazOn anymore so I sort of forgot about it. I use StazOn OR the Black Archival ink, for my Impressions of Tarnished Foil technique which also uses the Stampin' Up! foil sheets. Have you checked out my KZbin video featuring the Impressions of Tarnished Foil technique? If you like "Black Ice" I think you might like that too. Have fun playing!
