A friend has 2 large pear trees and told me to come and get as many as I want. I now know what I’m going to do with them. And I love that streamer canner and I’m going to check out getting one of them, looks a lot easier of dealing with a heavy water bath canner of boiling water. Thank you and many blessings.

I have a pear corer that makes very quick work of coring lots of pears. I find that I can peel a pear with a peeler quicker than blanching, cooling and taking off the skin with my fingers.

We are a farm family of all girls and we are learning homesteading, homeschooling, and everything else along the way! Our 14 year old daughter is the voice behind our channel where, like you, hopes to help and educate in any small way she can! THANK YOU for inspiring! Blessings to you from your friends from Kansas!

I found that a strawberry/tomato corer is also ideal for use in removing seed cores in many other produce items, including pears. Fast and easy, plus there is basically no waste because teh corer is so small.

I live in Arkansas and have an Asian Pear tree. I dry my pears, but sprinkle a bit of cinnamon on them first. I snack on them during the Winter and they're great. (on a side note, I want to encourage everyone to consider growing Sun Chokes as a survival food) Mrs Norris, Ma'am, you do a good job. I pray blessing on you and your loved ones...

I'm watching and thinking a soft no nap towel or paper towel will wipe that skin off without losing flesh, and a melon baller would cut the time down and lose less flesh. I bought 40 lb of beautiful transitional pears, and just had them delivered this week from Azure Standard. Thanks for confirming my idea of blanching!🎉🥰

We’ve used honey for years in canning, yes you do loose some of the nutrients but the trade of is your fruit doesn’t turn brown over time, when we used sugar this was not the case. We also use honey when we freeze fruit such as peaches and strawberries.

Question. Can you can Asian pears without the added lemon juice if you pressure can? I am new to canning and had different types of pears that I pressure canned all together and some of those were Asian pears. I did not use any lemon and canned at 6-7lbs of pressure. I used the instructions that came with my presto canner, but didn’t know that Asian pears need to be acidified. That was about a month ago. Any idea on if this is safe or how I can go about finding out? Thanks and I look forward to using the tips from this video next time!

I used my steam canner for the first time a few days ago, and my tiny home is very cold (no space for a wood stove sadly). I thought it would be a good idea to add a step when removing the top, I waited about half an hour to remove it, but I propped it up slightly first for 5 minutes. After most of the steam found its way out through the propped cover, I then removed it completely. i was worried that the cold air from my cabin would hit the jars to fast. Is what I did recommended, or am I wasting my time?
@momwoods8726
@momwoods8726 11 ай бұрын
When I teach home preservation I always mention don’t set jars in a drafty place. I think it would depend on how severe the temperature difference would be. If your room is 10° colder or less I wouldn’t worry; just keep out of open window draft.
