Rebels Campaign: Rome Total War #1

Welcome, to Part 1 of my Rome Total War Rebels Campaign!
In this Campaign I will rise my fellow Rebels to victory and free all in the world.
This Campaign is a challenge, as few settlements actually provide good units, but it balances is it, as rebel armies pop-up out of nowhere to join my cause.

Melkor I think a good idea would be to wait a little bit to attack certain Greek settlements because you can’t recruit units from the building you get from the rebels I am pretty sure

I started my own campaign after Lugatorix did, and i would offer some of the things i learned. 1: scorced earth. When you leave a city to the enemy, do not give them free peasants. That first unit of peasants you disbanded went straight to the local population, giving the Julii more tax and farm income once they capture it, and 1.5 unit of town watch/hastati, once they upgrade the town. Instead, move the peasants out of the town into a friendly province. Once they cross the border, disband and enjoy 1.5 unit of militia hoplites. Population is a valuable resource, especialy in western europe, so always keep them away from the enemy. Once the Julii get going you will be happy to have one of their towns not producing legions because the population is too low. Also destroy buildings when leaving a town. Extra fun: when you get a throwaway army and can cap a town, but can't hold it. Just cap it, massacre the population, destroy all buildings, then let your troops fight to the last man. Did that once with the Scithians, one less city to produce horse archers. 2: money

@@MelkorGG Thanks. And of course, this is your play, not mine, so however you play is the right way. Also watched more of the episode, you are allready bringing scorched earth to the enemy. nice job. It is doable, i think i was 12 turns in when i went on holliday, had five factions destroyed allready, making a snowball of free armies when the familie members died. Just too bad you cant see your own army in the charts, compare strength.

@@MelkorGG one last thing i almost forgot: NEVER bring those amazones into a city to fight. Especialy on huge unit size charriots cant navigate in a city and get overrun even by peassants, so no chance to run around and fill the enemy with arrows. Stay on the open fields and let these wild women enjoy the frenzy.

Good Luck Sir! The main thing I noticed from my playthrough was the culture of the cities is key to training troops! Greek culture (you can tell by the troop colour on recruitment tab) is ideal as you can recruit Hoplites - that's the best infantry you can recruit as the rebels.

letting greek troops board a ship makes them pirates, and all cities they capture become pirate as well. Joining changes one army's nationality to the other ones, but forgot who became who. Glitches occur as well, when a city suddenly refuses to produce troops, or pretends militia hoplites are the best it can produce.... Greek rebels can produce troops, eastern rebels (horse archers!!! ) and carthaginian rebels can. Barbarians cant, no matter what you do.

@@sjonnieplayfull5859 Culture is a bizarre mistress it is true. I ended up getting Gladiators and hastati in Londinium after it was Roman. Rome was Macedonian - utter anarchy!

I don't like dispanding troups if you can walk to an enemy army and steal like 10 soldiers by killing of your peasents. So they don't get wasted.

use the miltia hoplite settlements as places to recruit troops which can provide a significate blow in attack or defence in numbers ..anything else is pretty naf and will get wiped out or be impossible to defend.. i wouldnt invest in eastern cities unless you have greek troops to defend em :D

@@herroberbesserwisser7331 although they are a useful unit , it is hard to stop a determined push [attack] even from eastern infantry as they are so weak in h-t-h to make defense a losing proposition :D you might be able to shoot down a fair bit of a unit , but you need a good cav with charging or inf to do the rest :D

I preferred to take the settlements when generals are away so that way you get all the generals also you use diplomat for bribes it’s very nice

How does Rome Total War still work for you? Mine is horrendously slow.

I installed a file called d3d8 which helps with lag with the windows 10 compatibility issue.

@@MelkorGG nice I tried installing it on a disk, it didn't work. I had to pirate it and it was something not working in the files. Barbarian invasion had some error in a file under windows ultimate. I got it to work... It was quite hard.... The disk worked in my other pc.

Why is Athens a rebel settlement?

No idea, would make more sence as the capital of the Greek City States. Maybe it was a balancing thing? XD Greeks need a buff, cannot be that.

At this time there had been some independence of Greek city States like syracuse Athens corinth and sparta. I don't think the Greek faction really existed as was portrayed in the game, more something to fit it into the game

The Greek faction in the game is loosely based on the Achaean union from that time. I say loose because Syracuse and Pergamon were independent kingdoms, Rhodes were independent democracy and only Sparta and Thermon were actually in the union. Athens were the leader of the rival Aetolian union. Both were enemies of Macedonia and enemies among themselves, both were in weird love/hate relationship with Rome. Exactly that behavior forced Sula to put Greece to the slaughter in the Mithridatean wars, completely wiping out the Athenian state by exterminating the city after a gruesome siege and selling the remnants of the population in slavery. Today's athenians and the majority of the Greeks are helenised people from the "barbaric" lands of the Thrace, Macedonia, Epirot, Anatolia and Middle East brought by the Romans and Bysantians, having nothing in common with the Greeks of old, no matter how much they brag about it.

Generals can spawn to me, but I don't start with any

generals spawn, and when your faction grows in size they are adopted in your capital, but the family tree stays empty. They dont marry, never have children, so not too hard to figure why they are rebels :D . basicaly your faction can not die. Oh, and like Melkor said, all surviving generals become rebels (your new reïnforcements) when you capture all cities of a faction, so maybe spies become very usefull when charging a city with open gates...
