I loved this music so much and now I'm listening their albuns. Better part of a eurovision fan. To find artists you didn't know and fall in love with their work. Hope they wing MGP. More people will find this fantastic band.

As we say here on nisseberget,old Norway…just w o w……that song was kinda anonymous from the studio production…but just woooow…it blew me TOTALLY away breathless tonight…Subwoolfer,Tix….forget them…that was……I have no words to describe it…weve missed a scene performance for so many years…what a voice,what a stormy set on the scene…those pictures…everything…just…do we have a tiny small chance to W I N EUROVOSION this year…15 years since Rybak-Fairytale….OSLO25?????????????????????????????

Bonjour Maxe 😘. I enjoyed watching your great reaction, as many times before. Although I'm no expert by any means I wish to say a few things about this song Ulveham. The front singer, Gunnhild, was also last year asked to participate in the Melodi Grand Prix as there was a song available for her, but she didn't wish to participate with a song not produced by her and her band or perform without her band and put down the offer. Unlike last year she and her band accepted the offer to participate this time with their own song. Gåte is a well-known and award-winning band here in Norway that started as a band back in 1999 when Gunnhild was 13-14 years old. Their music style is often referred to as progressive folk-rock and electronica, and they emphasize on Norwegian folk music. This time they had just made a new song which could work for this music competition, and this is the song that you've now been reacting to, Ulveham, meaning wolf skin. They just had to reduce the length of the song to the half as the full version of "Ulveham" is nearly six minutes long and the reason for this is that it wasn't made in the aim of being in the Eurovision Song Contest. The full version has a really nice bridge midway into the song (3:21), but I can understand that they had to let go of some parts of the song to fit into the required three minutes format. This old story is about a young maiden that is cursed by her evil stephmother who turns her into all sorts of things such as a needle, sword etc and also into a horse, but to the stephmothers frustration people keep loving everything that the girl turned into. In the end, and out of jealousy, she transforms the girl into a wolf that walks around in the woods and the only way to break the curse is by drinking the blood of her own brother. The story makes a different turn than the stephmother has planned when the girl one day rips the heart out of the pregnant stephmother and eats it, and the curse is broken as the pregnant stephmother carries her half brother. The lyrics are dramatic and there's a use of different song styles and singing techniques. The beginning is called "kulning" which is the way of calling for your life stock to come back down from the mountains after finishing grazing for the season. A touch of this way of singing is also to find throughout the song. To my opinion one can also feel that in other parts of the song the "story telling" way of singing, where a clear pronunciation is essential, yeah almost like a way of "talk singing" which is also typical in our folk music is present. And other styles of technique. Obviously mixed with rock 😉. A good mix in other words. They use some traditional instruments such as Swedens national instrument "nyckelharpa", which is an instrument that was also in use in Norway some centuries ago before mostly being replaced by other instruments.
