Gåte’s music is a dark, mesmerizing and stunningly beautiful take on Nordic folk. Where they flirt with elements from traditional Norse and pagan music as well as from more modern genres like rock and industrial. The chorus is a socalled KULOKK, - the maiden calling the cattle in from the the mountains. The roots of this song is a thousand years old.

Awesome song! The nyckelharpa (the keyed instrument being played with a bow) linked the music to the song's medieval roots. From Bandcamp's description of the song: “Ulveham” is based on a medieval balled, and like other historical legends and songs it carries an important moral. The song is a story of young maiden that undergoes a series of injustices, but by upholding justice and goodness, even in the toughest trials, she triumphs over evil forces and breaks the curse placed upon her."

Love your reaction as always. The name of the song "ulveham" means more than being dressed as a wolf. It is actually being in a wolfs body (= hamnskifte = what Anoana is doing in Heilungs movie that you reacted on). The corresponding shift to a bear is björnsärk (or berserk as you call it in english), more well known maybe. Wearing a ulveham will also make you a werewolf, which are not knewn to be very nice. Actually the song is based on a more than 1000 year old saga in old norse (can be described in very good and accurate detail in kzbin.info/www/bejne/inm8ineff8itha8&ab_channel=EurovisionHistories ). That saga was picked up by the Grimm brother's which started the saga of Snowwhite which is an offspring of this, but far less bloody and more symbolic

Gåte have been my favourite Folk Rock band since I discovered them about 20 years ago. Even though this song only came in last at this year's Eurovision, they have won thousands of new fans around the world which otherwise would never have heard of them. If you could imagine listening to another song by them, they have just released a videoclip of a fantastic live-performance of their song "Kjærleik" ("Love") from March 2024, in which they were accompanied by a female choir. Here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYvXhmaDjLNpb5I This song has evolved quite a bit since the original version from their album "Iselilja" in 2004. On their official channel, there's another beautiful acoustic live-version of this song filmed at a concert in an old copper-mine in March 2020, just a few days before the pandemic made any live concerts impossible for a while: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6rdp3yiZr2AgJY The song title doesn't appear in the title of the clip ("akustisk" simply means "acoustic"), but the title is mentioned in the description of the clip.

The lyric is horrible and the screaming! Norway Gåte Ulveham ,Many people are not aware of what she actually sings, which in my opinion is a cruel text from the old days. And i am from Norway ! The text copied from newspaper today: She summarizes "Ulveham", based on an old medieval ballad, as the story of an evil stepmother who casts a curse on her stepdaughter - who turns into a wolf running in the forest forever. She only loses her wolf's hide if she drinks her own brother's blood. "There will be a kind of happy - but cruel - ending when she meets the stepmother on horseback in the forest, throws herself at her, rips out her heart and drinks the blood. Because the stepmother is pregnant with her brother - thereby the curse is lifted.

Me being half northNorwegian and half northWestern I have no trouble understanding The Words. But you have to like Nynorsk(which directly transelated is NewNorwegian, but obviously The original Norwgian. Which asceneed from Old Norse/now close to Icelandic). Norway has a lot of dialects from nynorsk and they Are quite different and unique. Some really hard to understand. Depending on outside language interferal or not(We have loads of fjords and valleys that can be hard to reach, If you catch My drift😉. Anyhow; We have a spoken language Bokmål which is heavily influnceded by Danish. The way she sings is based on several Norwegian old techniuqes.
