I saw Gåte play live in Dødens dal ( Death valley in english) in a re-union concert after 10 000 people put their signature on a list to make them play again. When I saw this gig the guitarplayer would climb towers of speakers and things, and would be 10 meters above stage rocking out... I was seriously concerned for his safety. But I have learned later that this is just who he is, he does this all the time. So if someone think a simple guitar throw is out of control, just imagine how it is to watch him on a stack of 7 Marshalls with his eyes closed and headbanging. He has done this since 1999.

This band have played together for 20 years. Gunnhild started to sing in the band when she was 14 years old. The lyrics his is based on a 1000 year old fairytale and the song is from a "kulokk" witch was used to bring in the cows. Look up Norwegian kulokk. These high notes are important because they should reach far away so the cows would hear the song. This is Norwegian culture, and we are very proud of it in Norway. It has nothing to do with global warming, but Norway is very consered about global warming. We do a lot to the climate changes in Norway. Just google and learn.

This song is definitely growing on me, I definitely appreciate Norway sending it to Eurovision. I'd say it's in the top tier of songs we have atm. Also, worth noting that while MGP allows live autotune, Gåte were one of the bands that didn't use it, so that vocal will be just as great in May
@craigpacker717110 ай бұрын

@ristoravela65210 ай бұрын
Oh, and the lyrics are an adaptation of a classic Nordic folktale, other bands have also done it (Garmarna did a song Vedegällningen which has the same story). The very short version is, there's a jealous evil stepmother that puts a curse on our heroine, which turns her into a wolf, and she can only be freed from the curse if she drinks the blood of her brother. I believe that's where this version of the song leaves the story. The long/album version of the song also has the happy ending, where the girl (in wolf form) attacks her stepmother and bites into her, and it turns out the stepmother is pregnant with the girls unborn brother, so the stepmothers blood is also her brothers blood and thus the curse is broken. Nice and bloody, like a proper 1000 year old folktale should be 😄
@Starchild9110 ай бұрын
Actually, towards the end, you can hear in backing vocals (the screaming, creepy sounding ones) the lines about blood running loose after the wolf bites the stepmother. It's not easy to hear, but it's there. I think they just ran out of time to include it fully in the song. (The full song is almost 6 minutes long, so I don't blame them for having to cut it out. It must've been really hard figuring out what to keep and what to get rid of.)

Gåte’s music is a dark, mesmerizing and stunningly beautiful take on Nordic folk. Where they flirt with elements from traditional Norse and pagan music as well as from more modern genres like rock and industrial. The name of the song "ulveham" means more than being dressed as a wolf. It is actually being in a wolfs body . The corresponding shift to a bear is björnsärk (or berserk as you call it in english), more well known maybe. Wearing a ulveham will also make you a werewolf, which are not knewn to be very nice. Actually the song is based on a more than 1000 year old saga in old norse (can be described in very good and accurate detail in kzbin.info/www/bejne/inm8ineff8itha8&ab_channel=EurovisionHistories ). That saga was picked up by the Grimm brother's which started the saga of Snowwhite which is an offspring of this saga, but far less bloody and more symbolic ....And! This is easily the best song this year, fantastic vocalist. Obviously won't win though, because that's not how the competition works 😂 I've been listening to Gåte since their beginning essentially (early 2000's), and I love to see them in the competition... especially since unlike so many others, they've really compromised on nothing to be there. This is exactly their style and sound, there's nothing gimmicky about it. So many "folk influenced" artists in Eurovision do it in a very superficial way, but with Gåte the influences go all the way to the core. I also love that this is "just" a track from their new album ("Vandrar", it's good, go listen to it), it's probably not made with Eurovision in mind.

The diacritic mark isn't really a diacritic mark. lol There's a letter a in Norwegian & also å. Å comes at the very end of the alphabet in Norwegian: it goes a-z like English, then æ, ø & finally å. The circle is known as a ring or bolle, & it is derived from Old Norse, & is pronounced like a long o, such as the word or (ɔrː]). It's common in most North Germanic languages, with the exception of Icelandic & Faroese. We saw å back in Eurovision in 2021, when Måneskin won. Their bass player, Victoria De Angelis, has a Danish mother & Italian father, so they used a Danish word as their band name. Måneskin means moonlight in Danish.

The screams, which are actually a singing technique, are based on the very old singing tradition of luring cows, which can be found in different variations in many countries. Since the sound has to travel a long way, you have to make a lot of noise in a high pitch. There are even words in the lure, although you have to know the lore to recognize them.
