Matt was the purest soul of the building. With his departure, the spirit of the orIginal gang left as well. Great scene.

The heart and soul of the show. Seeing Rhonda (Vanessa Williams) make an appearance to see Matt off would've been a great way to have his final scene.

I hated that they got rid of the best characters to replace them by predictable, boring and unlikeable ones. Coop, Taylor, Samantha, Lexi?? Give me a break, nobody almost watched season 6 and 7. no wonder why.
@deeppurplefan96483 жыл бұрын
How exactly Lexi is the unlikable one? She was one of the few female character who had the potential to overthrow Amandas spotlight in the show if the writers werent too busy making Amanda some plot armor and turn her into the shows superman. None of the character you listed are as predictable and unlikeable as Brooke, Jess, Chris or even Amanda.
@socialmedianotfunanymore3 жыл бұрын
@ Jay, actually Lexi was one of the newer characters fans liked. Much that I can say about anyone else, Taylor, Coop, Sam and Jennifer. Lexi finally gave us a show being on equal footing going toe to toe with Amanda in Season 7.

Naw that already happened at the end of season 5. That was the last good episode of the show and it died after that. It should’ve been Matt left with the rest, Billy ended up with Allison and they departed, Peter and Amanda, Jake gets a call from jo and meets her, and Michael comes and holds Sydney after she dies instead of Craig. I’d had something different than tbe car hitting so they both were killed off. But it shouldn’t ended there with those scenes and not brought those new cast members that destroyed the show and ruined what life it had left.

Basically, 90% of the cast left at the end of the 5th season... even if Matt stayed for ONE episode in S6....

After his departure the writers didn’t want to introduce another lgbt character.. the revival of Melrose Place made the Amanda wannabe character bi but that didn’t make relevant to her character or her storylines.. at least Darren Starr (the creator of 90210 and Melrose Place) a gay man in 90’s Hollywood tried to introduce gay storylines with Matt but censors on FOX really were a pain in the ass for the show
@elliemyers64354 ай бұрын
Yeah, that was super, super frustrating. It would have been SERIOUS groundbreaking TV in the 90s had they had an LGBTQ character and ACTUALLY have them be out on screen. They never really showed matt be romantic at all, which was a bummer. Apparently Aaron Spelling & the rest of the Fox execs were afraid of backlash from middle America had they shown more queer stuff on the show, which was a shame. I totally forgot about Ella in the revival! They did have her be queer, and showed her making out with a couple women (She has one REALLY good makeout scene with a brit), but you're right, they didn't make that part of her character, which really sucked. There was a good opportunity, but no execution.

Matt was pretty boring and a bad play at a gay character. But it was nice to have a cast member who wasn’t psycho, scheming, or a cheater. Matt and Megan were the two that held it down. I never got why he didn’t just leave at the end of season 5 either? He was on the season 6 premiere and was gone. Then a cheap way to kill him off, they had the episode where he was killed in a car accident tho never shown. That was supposed to be the season 7premiere. But it ended up being pushed back bc season 6 was ended early and the last remaining episodes were carried over to the next season. Never knew why tho.
@elliemyers64354 ай бұрын
Yeah, agreed on all fronts. You're definitely right that his character was a snooze, which sucked given he was gay, and it would have been nice to see some real, interesting queer storylines on the show, but, this was the early-mid 1990s, and at that time, being queer was still very taboo, and apparently Fox higher ups were afraid to show more gay storylines because of potential backlash from conservatives. I also have no idea why they killed him off-screen...was it just to have that journal stoyline? I mean, that was fine, but they could have done without it, OR they could have just found the journal in a storage locker or something and introduced it that way. They definitely didn't need to kill him. That seemed over the top. Have we ever found out why those episodes in Season six got pushed back to season seven?

I’m trying to figure out who are the amazing people that passed through in died? We know Brooke died but I don’t think that she would be amazing to Matt. We know that Rhonda left and got married but who else was amazing to Matt that lived there and died?
