@L Clayton *WOW, that was TL;DR, but I read it anyway, because I was very intrigued to hear what you had to say! I don't know any other actor that has this mannerism. Funny enough, I'm really late to the Chicago series, so I actually just watched that Eddie Little episode maybe 2 weeks ago. I'll go back and check out that specific scene again. lol.* *I think his gravelly voice just gives him more character for a sergeant. It's not necessary, but it does add that extra intimidation factor. It suits Voight well.*

He was in a coma for 3 and a half weeks after a bad car accident in 1999. During that coma he involuntarily ripped out his breathing tube from time to time which messed up his vocal cords. A direct before and after, compare his voice in 1998 projects he was in to 2000 projects.
