my dad and i were trying to figure out how to do this for so long you just saved me from being abandoned from my family.

One thing i saw on another video was pack it partially then ball up some tinfoil and then add more filament. That way it will use less and should cut down on baking time and leave more filament for more. Of course this will only work on larger molds.

I just recently got back into FDM printing (been mostly doing resin) and picked up a Bambu machine. I was looking into what my options were to recycle all the purge and this looks like it's a great idea! Maybe I'll see if there are some dice molds or something.

I just got a crap ton of pla waste and I really want to try doing some stuff like this. Wish me luck!

I have a ton of PETG waste. Sounds like a cool idea to do to maybe recycle and resell as custom desk ordainments

Great video! A question tough. I have tried this now and it works, but there is a lot of (blue looking) smoke coming out of the oven. I did it outside, in an oven just like yours, 190 celsius (about 374 Fahrenheit) and a bit higher. I am melting matte PLA filament by „eryone“. Did you have the same problem with the smoke or any suggestions what I might be doing wrong?

Does it melt enough to be easily pourable? I was considering some art project ideas, but I'd be melting in an oven safe measuring cup and pouring it out, if that would work.

I'm assuming there's no real fumes/smells when it melts?

I am wondering how you get rig of the bubbles from the skull head inside of the mold. I always end up with those...
@Cartierusm6 ай бұрын
I second that. How did you get rid of the bubbles that everyone else seems to have?

I'm using a toaster oven and I keep getting burnt marks on mine... How long did that roughly take you
@Shayway9 ай бұрын
Not gonna lie, it took quite some time. Probably 5 or 6 hours in total but I checked on it every 40 min or so

I recently tried this with that exact mold. But i could not get the skull out of the mold when it was done. It really stuck to the mold. Do you use anything as a mold release agent ?
@Shayway5 ай бұрын
I did not! hmm, were you using PLA? Also curious if it was completely cooled

Man the fumes have to be gnarly from a toaster oven.

surprisingly its not bad but my shop space is pretty well ventilated

would an air fryer work ?
@Shayway9 ай бұрын
I’m sure it would. You’d just need to monitor the temps till you figure it out

I bought a silicone mold from Amazon too. I tried to make something in it twice using my PLA scraps. Both attempts were unsuccessful. I read a bunch of things on it & watched a lot of tutorials to make sure I knew what I was doing. I don't understand why mine won't melt all the way. It looks more like someone took a lighter and tried to melt a bunch of scraps just enough so they'd stick together, then tried to squish it into a design. 😆🤔😭

You may need to play with temps depending on the size of the oven/toaster you are using. More heat, etc
