Hi Jeanelle, I'm also lactose intolerant, i never had when i was growing up but developed it when I drank this weight gainer called mutant (protein powder)....it was advertised to have 3K calories in one scoop soooo that sounded good at the time but it was one of my biggest regret since i love dairy, but have you ever heard of lactose enzyme chewables/ tablets? It was truly a life changer when i tried them,i have ones that is for 1 a day, i can eat any dairy without anymore pains in my tummy for the day. 🙂 i hope you can read this and help you to enjoy dairy like me!! Vegan cheeses are trying to replicate the texture of cheese, so some of them replicate the texture of normal cheese and some are better at replicating the texture of melted cheese. You just have to figure out which one yours is. Usually if you get a vegan cheese imitating a type of cheese often used melted, like cheddar, it will be good melted. I make ham and cheese sandwiches but I always have to melt the cheese because it tastes awful if you don't. But, for something like parmesan which is usually used as a garnish on top of a salad or pasta, most vegan parmesans won't melt, and are meant to imitate the texture of solid parmesan.

@BeesRecipes
@BeesRecipes 2 жыл бұрын
@@desertrainfrog1691 because humans kill animals (99% of all farm animals are factory farmed) by raising them from birth in a factory and giving them little to no space to move around so they gain weight and then forcibly impregnate them to make more babies until they can't make babies anymore and then they're killed. Then they put those babies in cages until they're fat enough to kill too- or in some cases the babies are immediately shot in the head or thrown into a grinder alive if they're deemed not good enough to forcibly impregnate. The cycle repeats. I could go on. Nothing about this is natural. It's not even remotely comparable to animals killing other animals in the wild. These farms are more easily compared to a death camp.

Except neither of those factors are actually truth- dairy cows don't produce milk if they're stressed. Period. It's not even that they produce less, but if they get really stressed out, they dry up completely. They're some of the most spoiled rotten animals ever. And crop agriculture is almost as bad if not worse than animal agriculture. Your best bet for genuine best-practice environmental sustainability and animal welfare is to buy locally (no/minimal impact from transportation!), from farmers that you know use good practices. For both animal products and crops.

Crop ag has just as much impact as animal ag does tho. What we need is a full overhaul of the agricultural system as it is right now. Animals will be a part of any sustainable agricultural system- they're great for pest control, weed control, fertilizer, grazing down fields, pigs can be ran through to churn up the soil before seeding, etc. And then they convert our offshoots (soybean meal, damaged produce, rice bran, corn stalks, etc.) Into useable food, and we don't have to incinerate those offshoots/byproducts (there's too much produced daily to process otherwise- and there would be even if we completely converted our agricultural system to a 100% eco friendly and sustainable system tomorrow bc of the simple fact we're feeding around 8 billion people). Animals also are amazing in places where crops aren't viable- because it's too steep and craggy for fields (Scotland) or too hot and dry to sustain enough cropland to feed everyone (Egypt, the American southwest). Goats and sheep thrive on minimal water and tough browse. What's a sustainable and viable diet will vary from region to region and continent to continent.

Most vegan cheese don't melt, it's because they don't have a protein called casein which is what makes normal cheese stretch, though i have heard about some types of vegan cheese melting

I got the violife cheddar slices the other day and found that the texture and taste weren’t the best cold but it melted easily and tasted MUCH better that way..the flavour did kind of remind me of buttered popcorn though which was strange. I’m excited to keep trying different kinds and hopefully find ones that I like!

Try a vegan cheese! A good brand tastes as good (to some it tastes better), and you can eat it without guilt :)

It doesn't have casein so it doesn't melt. scientists will probably come up with a way to extract that protein from sources other than dairy, like fungi

Idk if this is true, but I heard that cheese aged more than 60 days tends to have little to no lactose because of the aging process. Might be worth looking into if you struggle with dairy! •~•
