Indians generally refer to rivers as Thaai (mother) . Example- Ganga , Kaveri etc. Only Thamizh language refers to Kaveri as Ponni ‘magal meaning ‘ daughter’. Of course they also refer to Kaveri as mother and Goddess.

Since you understand a bit of Hindi you can listen to or react to Hindi version of this song titled Kaveri se Milne...it's composed and sung by AR Rehman too...Ponniyin Selvan means son of Kaveri....Kaveri is an important river in Tamilnadu...This song depicts and introduce a state and character of the actor Karthi....This movie is second costliest movie of India after 2.0 with a budget bigger than RRR or both Bahubali movies combined.,..the story of the movie based on the novel published in 1950's by the same name in Kalki magazine....they have been trying to make movie on it since last sixty years....and the director Mani Ratnam is one of the finest director India has produced... actually he gave the first break to AR Rehman in 1992 with his movie Roza...and it has a stellar cast including Vikram,Karthi, Aishwarya Rai,Trisha Krishnan, Aishwarya Luxmi, Prakash Raj and Jairam Ravi etc...you might recognise some ...I am not Tamilan but I am following Tamil cinema since 80's.....

Oh dear...I never said that Hindi version is better than Tamil version.... it's just a matter of understanding more...personally I like Tamil version more especially the chorus...I simply suggested that because they understand Hindi more than Tamil...since they have already reacted to Tamil version so there will be a little more understanding of lyrics....as I mentioned I am a North Indian but I am a huge fan of Maniratnam sir since Naayagan came out and AR Rehman sir since Roza...in fact, I still prefer to watch movies in original language first....and I have been watching them since 86 in cinema halls without subtitles....still sorry,if I offended you...I understand Hindi is still a delicate matter for Tamilians.....🙏🙏🙏

Vanakkam! The opening fight reminded Gladiator, the scenes between Vikram and Vikram Prabhu, the sea shore fight in Sri Lanka reminded of Troy, the secne where Karthi was alone in the sea reminded of Life of Pai, the rescue scenes of Oomai Rani reminded of The Lord of the Rings. the fight sequence of Karthi at the Fort reminded of The Scirpion King. Apart from these things the characterization is well handled. The cinematography and the lighting is enjoyable. The costumes and the use of jewellery takes the audience to the time. Sure there will be orders pouring into many jewellery shops atleast in Tamilnadu. All the characters are well portrayed by the seasoned artists of our film industry. The background music and the songs are delivered well by A R Rahman. Well choreographed dances by Brindha. Lovely lines by the lyricists. Thank you Mr. Mani Ratnam- PONNIYIN SELVAN- Part-1.
