I didn't really have doubts about them watering it down, but this gameplay really goes to show that they're making it by the book. Moving before the round begins, the blockstrings and the combos are just pure good old Melty with one hell of a pretty makeover. Those sprites look so crisp and beautifully animated that they put to shame the majority of 2.5D fighting games out there.

Aesthetically, French Bread went back to Melty Blood's roots. This is a strong call back to OG Melty Blood's UI design, but updating it a bit to match modern standards and it's quite a beauty. Melty Blood turns "simplicity" into "elegance", that's the best way to say it.

Wow, definitely no 3 hits into sweep-type combos to be found here. Literally every hit leading into air combo, oftentimes even landing before continuing into another jump combo. By the way, the facial expressions on the actual sprites are great. Much better than those of the drawn high resolution images, I have to say. Very expressive game. Looks like for these two chars at least, air throw gives mediocre oki but you can spend meter to get better oki.

I'm glad to see the neutral movement round start is back. I'm now also wondering how the stage size will affect the gameplay, because that is a lot of space between corners. It seems neutral route options will have a little bit more value over corner carries and corner pressure/combos, which is fine since neutral play was always one of Melty's strong suits. All in all, this is shaping up to be something special.

So for round 1 it says Crescent Moon, round 2 Half Moon and round 3 Full Moon. Also, whoever loses a round gets one extra Magic Circuit(adds to max as well). I actually quite like that as a comeback mechanic.
