Remember, everyone. We had to fight to get rollback into Strive, and it wasn't immediate. Hell, there were reports that half of the ArcSys devs were against rollback. Kamone, the battle designer for French Bread fighting games, made one tweet a year or so ago asking people how you implement rollback netcode into games. Then, Type Lumina gets announced with rollback netcode. I have said this time and time again, but it's things like these that tell me that French Bread really has fighting game fans, casual and hardcore, in mind. Lumina is $50, no season pass announced pushing the game's actual price higher if you want the actual complete package, and there will be single player content in the base game, unlike games like fucking SFV on release. I bet if we asked for frame data in the training mode, French Bread would implement that. Call me jaded, but it feels good to actually trust that fighting game dev is thinking about the customer, their fans rather than treating their game as a fucking product to make money from.

I abandoned uni after several years because uniclr launched without rollback and I'd had enough after Evo showed me just how different local play is from netplay. Strive is fun, but I'm looking forward to a game that isn't trying so hard to be brand new for a change.

It's not until now that Aniplex producer of FGO is bringing up promotion for Tsukihime A piece of blue glass moon and Melty Blood Type Lumina in the FGO livestream yesterday. Sony Group's CEO (Kenichiro Yoshida) said at CES 2020 they want Fate to become a big franchise like Marvel and DC. If you look at highest-grossing media franchises Fate is in that list at $4.54B and according to Sony this is only the starting point. Sony co-owns FGO with TYPE-MOON so this doesn't come as a surprise. If people expect more plans for Tsukihime they should keep expectations in check. TYPE-MOON didn't established Studio BB to make Tsukihime a big brand. It might be a medium-sized title in collaboration with another developer like Fate/EXTRA Record at best, but the large-scale title Niinou mentioned for 4Gamer last year was going to have main team at TYPE-MOON (writing team + art team + sound team) involved and at the same time show Studio BB's abilities. The initial concept of FGO was an MMORPG using designs, drafts and concepts later collected in the Fate/complete material IV Extra material book. But the planned game was cancelled and shelved during planning stages. Later on in 2014, Aniplex proposed Nasu to revisit the cancelled game project and suggested Delightworks in collaboration to rework the concept into a mobile RPG. Delightworks established Fate/Grand Order Studio after the game's success. Only full-time staff at Delightworks is FGO Studio. Nasu is known for revisiting shelved projects and Studio BB will just focus on Fate internally by the BB name alone. Just take a look at Anime Expo 2019 the promotion for FGO was everywhere and Crunchyroll Expo 2019 had the same. PlayStation division decided to promote Demon Slayer Hinokami Chronicles on State of Play as their first anime game since Genshin Impact. But where was Melty Blood Type Lumina? Exactly. If it was FGO and made by ArcSys this would have been on PS5 and promoted on State of Play without hesitating.

I think the biggest problem with why people aren't talking about this...is sadly because it isn't "their" game. They want everything that Melty Blood is doing...but they want it for their game, like Tekken, KoF, or Strive. I think that's the biggest problem, is that no one in the community wants to shout out a game that's doing everything they would want in terms of transparency and info because it's from a game they don't care for. And maybe I'm wrong about all that, but I've seen enough people in the mindset of "oh, this game is doing all this stuff for its community...but I don't care for it, so I'm not gonna blow it up for more people to see" to feel like this is a definite concern in the community.

Someone already explained it well, but the fact that the devs are actually talking about MB in detail is exactly why influencers aren't talking about it. How are they going to clickbait you into a 10 minute (for monetization purposes, of course) video of speculation and filler when everything there is to say that matters to people who play these games has already been out, straight from the horse's mouth? The way the melty information is coming out is perfect for the consumer, and poison for the content creators. We already know the roster (mostly?), and the mechanical changes and additions are hard to make a 10 minute video about week-in week-out like the KOF character trailers. It's funny, all the dudes reacting to those trailers are BEGGING for a mechanics trailer, and when melty gives them mechanics trailers in a similar format, they sleep. And I don't blame them! But I do hate them :)

As someone who hasn't played Melty before (although i did play a decent amount of UNIST), I have my faith in French Bread to make something good, but if I didn't know French Bread were so consistent, I would be equally put off by the game.

For what its worth : I am buying this game. Never played a melty ever. My reasons are simple. First they announced rollback early. They have the balls SNK doesnt. Then they showed the game and the visuals are actually pretty great. Its a beautiful game. Nothing blends with the background, characters are sharp and you can tell whats happening on the screen. The UI is normal and not weird, the music seems nice, the font is at a human size and there is no wild visual fx all over the screen. People say melty games are fun. So I will give this game a fair try. If the online is good I'm sure I'll be playing it a lot. Day one for me. If I had any doubt the discounted price erased it.

For what it's worth, this game is a nasuverse game first and foremost. So you'll get most appeal out of it being atleast familiar with tsukihime. I'd recommend reading the manga online to get a gist for the characters and story

reverse beat is in the game. Pay attention to the second combo in both of the first two twitter videos. They do the attacks in different order from their first combo AND you even see in the shield video second combo that he does an airdash in the middle of the combo and then double jump. So the mobility options and reverse beat are all in there. Like with the bars in the heat video they are showing in a sneaky way to more "complex mechanics" trying to just show it off as something simpler

If you have any interest at all in anime or manga I recommend reading the tsukihime manga online. Melty blood is the spinoff of tsukihime and you'll get a lot more appreciation for the characters knowing the story

Getting an auto-launcher on a successful shield might be them making the game more approachable to casuals. You even get a little cut-in and things freeze for a bit to give you a moment to process what's happening. Manual shield follow-ups could be an option they keep for Crescent Moon if that's in the game but a free launcher isn't a bad default option. My only problem with this mechanic is that there's no size 700 font making the game look like a shitpost when you shield. That's just bad UI design, man.

Hold THE FUCK UP. Reverse Beat is one of the most intuitive, free form systems that I've ever experienced in fgs. Yes pressing A,B,C is the ordered route but you can press those 3 buttons in any order. It makes it not feel shackled to only follow what the game is allowing us to do. When I was learning Uni from BBCF, when I finally started using reverse beat it felt soooo much better than BBCF. And I played CF very casually. Being able to combo my buttons in any order feels amazing, I'd imagine even for button mashers because they can free flow

If you have any interest I'd recommend reading the tsukihime manga online. Tsukihime is what melty blood as a spinoff was based in. You'll have a lot more appreciation going in knowing the characters and story

I’m glad to see MB coming back after a while. Played a Whole Lotta MBAACC back then with all of the retro stuff. Now I’m Screaming minus the S with the smooth animations that’s going on. I am excited for this game because the mechanics here doesn't seem to be about reduction and over simplification. I am excited for kof15 but I am a kof fan so I know the gameplay is gonna be atleast fine. The main thing that I am curious about for melty is the characters put into the roster otherwise might go arc again this time.

I am MAD hype about type Lumina. I've been saying to people how awesome this game is being marketed. French Bread has been firing on all cylinders from platform diversity, info towards the fans, NETCODE. I wonder if these are some marketing decisions Ono brought to the table on the publishing side. I've been preaching the gospel to anyone listening to hear about picking up this game because fighting games in the last... two years have disappointed me, and you already know which games I'm talking about. It would be a shame if this flies under the radar.

Bro ppl always talking about rollback netcode but cross play would save this game even if it got a poor launch Ppl would just keep playing since the playerbase wont show signs of dying if everybody connected under one network look at how many games was dying n been saved by crossplay! Especially in a one on one game fighting games really need to adapt if they want their playerbases to be consistent and grow
