I used to go see Mel Taylor at Rosa's from somewhere in the 98-03 era. We had to pick up our jaws from the floor. He is dynamite with a guitar.

That's what we said after seeing Melvin play. The guy is awesome. As I posted elsewhere, I saw him play over a dozen times between South Bend, Indiana and Chicago from 1988 to around 1997. Then I headed back to Asia to work full time.

I saw Melvin Taylor several times. I grew up in Chicago and he played Rose's all the time. One of the best guitar players I've ever seen. Especially from ten feet away!!! AWESOME!!!

I was at Blues Ect and all over Halstead and Roses was always the biggest treat on Saturday night seeing Melvin Taylor!! So Amazing! I still remember the first time and I was blown away ! I always wondered why he seemed to stay so LOCAL !! No complaints though!!

I first saw Melvin Taylor in Mishawka, Indian, east of South Bend back in 1988 at the Center Street Blues Cafe 4 times in 4 months. He would play on a Friday and Saturday. I drove the 40 miles from Michigan to see him. The guy is phenomenal. I invited a few guitarists I knew in the area to see him and they would crouch or sit in a chair closest to the stage to watch his fingers bend those strings. Even when he broke a string and he did that twice in those 4 shows, he never missed a beat. He had a bass player and a drummer at that time. I got to know all of them during the breaks. The drummer 's day job was working at a steel mill in Northern Indiana, outside of Chicago. I asked Melvin on many occasions has I saw him play at Rosa's Lounge in Chicago of who taught him to play as he did. He only replied that it was his uncle. We could never find out who that was. I did get 3 broken guitar strings from him of the dozen or more times I saw him play mostly in Chicago. I used to send him postcards from when I worked in Asia, especially one for his birthday which is close to mine in mid March. When Melvin came to play Voodoo Chile, he sounded so close to Jimi Hendrix,. His sound was clean and crisp. He said he had to play harder as he had no rhythm guitarist. If you get a chanced to see Melvin Taylor, go for it. Even Ronnie Earl has told me that his sound is unique. And I have seen Earl at least 8 times. Only Anson Funderburgh with Sam Myers and also Rod piazza have I seen more. About 15 times each.

Yeah I know where you are coming from my drug of choice 30 years ago was LSD and while everyone else was seeing cartoons I was seeing a multi universe and ideas that would change mankind but the longer I thought it always comes back to one thing humans are greedy they are greed ridden CANT help themselves so why bother just for someone to take it off you and the world for his or her own gratification fk that and now I just care about my son in Sweden and my music 🎶 especially slow blues and then ya die dust or particles in space remember religion doesn’t solve anything humans made that concept but they are all hypocrite’s so just enjoy the time you have with the people who love you treat them right and don’t be selfish and remember this all material Possession’s end up in the bin and all you are left with is memories they are what matters in the end x
