2:46 The old, dickhead rivals are overrated. Idk if it's because I did not grow up with older pokemon games, but I prefer the new, nice rivals because they act like actual rivals that challenge and pace you, even though they can be annoying with how happy-go-lucky they are on occasion. Nemona is my favorite rival by far, as even though she can be a bit... much at times, she really encourages you and is super happy to have someone that she can always battle with at her level. Especially when you beat her after the champion, you can tell how ecstatic she is about this and I personally love that, as it never really feels... idk, fake? I don't know what word to use, but yeah. Hop is also a descent rival, as he has good character development, but it's not nearly as good. It has that "fake" feeling at the beginning, and that random depressive state he goes into midway through the game makes me roll my eyes, as they don't do it well. Another much worse example is Barry. The gen 6 and 7 rivals are also just completely forgettable, but then again, so is everything about them. The old, mean rivals, don't challenge and pace you. They just exist for no other reason than to just be some guy that treats you poorly and battles you for no reason. The point of this might just be that the old rivals having pokemon that had an advantage over you was better, but I took it this way. TL;DR: Old, douchebag rivals suck, and "most" of the new, nice rivals are a lot better.
