全完同意。人生路途很遥遠,做到老,學刭老,天生我材必有用 千金散尽还复来。Everyone’s strength is in different areas, for those who did not get top marks, doesn’t mean anything, work hard play hard.

I recall my very old days in King's College in the early 60's when taking the secondary school certificate examination by selecting 10 subjects such as English Literature, History, Chinese literature, Chinese history , Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry , Biology, Geography and Arts. Too many of us scored high grades in science subjects e.g. distinctions and credits. Their choices in university faculty were Medicine and Engineering. One students scored 10 distinctions. Proud of the then achievements. Seems not as good as before in recent years!

One of my cousins also went to King's College, one of the very best schools in HK. My cousin subsequently entered HKU to study Chemistry. King's College was my number 1 target school when I was preparing for my secondary school entrance exam.

@@c0179614 I was only talking about King's College back in the 60/70s. As to the current academic status of King's College (or its teachers), or in that matter, the status/ranking of any of HK's schools, I am 100% clueless.

I am completely agreed with Mr Shiu, who theoretically speaking , that landing your first dream Job is not based upon which Well known University you are graduated from ,but your previous job experience really counts ! Genius graduate does not guaranteed that you will become a future Millionaire ...

And becoming a millionaire doesn’t necessarily mean that you are successful and enjoy your life.
The problem of dse include a few things: 1 the difference between Chinese language and the elective Chinese subject are unclear, this is due to the whole concept of culture in Chinese culture is selective yet in general Chinese study it is impossible to cover and explain the root of Chinese culture, the whole purpose of the subject is not just only language study but culture study, which in English language you will never see general study need you to know Shakespeare and using the Shakespearean way to write a commence letter, unfortunately this is not usage in general applications, for instead no one will write a commerce letter with all using all these kind of Chinese cultural thinking, and hence a few years ago you will see even writers themselves cant answer the exam paper. 2 the science education had been cut off too much, the basis of science necessary to advance and matching what the society needs was can be said minimal, the option of doing so for designing dse I believe was due to the fact that HK was base on the 4 core industry, but 2 decades HK mainly is a financial hub and I guess at that period the requirement for high level maths is not very intensive (consider doctor, accounting, lawyer and engineering, most these fields don't need intensive maths modeling and also big data is only a recent development in HK) and hence the level of general maths and advance maths are basically too little and not enough, this had heavily affected the syllabus in chemistry and physics, in 2015 they already cut off the part relate to 2D momentum problems simply students I dare to say 80% don't take M2, which is due to most student think maths is hard, but really maths is more objective and writing an essay, and also most schools think that m1 statistics is more suited for biology students and business students, this led to many students don't know calculus and product of sin cos and tan functions, and hence chemistry and physics are constantly being cutoff. This is now affecting the higher tech development in HK due to the shortsight of HK government never really and dare and know to ask and answer the question what is next after the financial hub in HK. 3 lack of programming, this is more of a social problem as 2 decades ago most people had really link programming into gaming and to many it is a bad idea and hence really the HK society really don't have enough education in coding before 2017. Besides the social valuing on programming, the IT elective of dse is a failure this is due to the whole IT elective is more towards business database in the period which programming was not used that often, this had made IT elective is very different than what is needed in the market, again thanks to the government short sight, basically had led to the current situ. I will suggest that to have alternatives from dse to fixs these problems one and really HK people should use more online platform like coursera, khan academy and edx. These were started by MIT and now have enough social recognition, they can be act as advance degree for skills for job hunting or the advance individual skill for any university admission. Can the DSE be saved maybe 5 years ago, but apparently the education bureau is too busy on cultural thinking, and when they spend time on that they will not have time to fix that. So in short term can't be fixed, long term hard to say.
Thanks for the info. The girl missed Oxbridge fell back to Imperial. She was disappointed. She was a disastrous product of her parents. I have a feeling her parents were not university educated. The child is their second coming. Oxbridge, I was told, they ask open ended question at interview. From their observers can see how that brains were configured. A paper chaser with parents carrying school bag for them would fall flat on their face. Going to university is a personal choice. Following parents aspiration and guidance to go to university is like arranged marriage with instructions on which hole to go into. This is just sad. If she was disappointed falling back to Imperial she was an education slave. Imperial is the British MIT. She ought to be proud rubbing shoulder with other bright minded youths. The difference is having a stimulating conversation in a campus bar and playing darts in a workers bar in a factory town. Hope she would shed her baggage to find a passion in her life soon.

Oxbridge OK. Imperial also good. No reasons for disappiontment.
