For those worried about the national service call: Politicians - especially PMs - promise hundreds of things 24/7, and 1/100 things actually get pushed through in a bill, and even then it either goes through so many legislative changes it won't be as simple as "you're 18; you're drafted", or it just won't happen anyway. Even the ones who promise to lower taxes for the general public only say it so they can get voted in - they very rarely actually go through with it.

@RobbieManic5 ай бұрын
Recently got diagnosed with BPD after waiting 14 years (basically half my life) to be taken serious and fighting with the NHS and bringing my diagnoses to them rather than them doing their job and diagnose me (it's as though no matter what I did/how much I told them I was "just a normal bloke" until I laid it down that no, no I'm not - it's not normal to be feeling this way, and if it was normal, then fuck it, I don't like this life anymore). Now on the waiting list for DBT and my medication isn't being changed or touched after being on them for 10 years (bye bye kidneys). I'm in the same boat as you guys. The problem is all the people who use mental health as an excuse not to work when there's legitimate work they can do that doesn't involve being in public etc. I have family members who use MH as an excuse and sponge off the benefits system - I don't talk to or acknowledge them, and I've had people say "why don't you just take the PIP/DLA? You've got XYZ, you'd get it". Well, 2 reasons: 1, it stops people who *actually* need it getting it; 2, situations like the ones were're facing now were bound to happen if everybody did so. I *can* work despite my problems, so why should I do that? It wouldn't be fair, it wouldn't be right, and fuck me, I'd hate living on benefits staying at home all day doing sweet FA - COVID furlough taught me that within 2 weeks.

1:00 swim away to where, most other countries have national service 😂 That being said I do understand why young people wouldn't be in favour, I remember in German class hearing about it and was like "tg I live in the UK". Mostly because spending 18 months away from the life I wanted seemed extreme. If they made national service work in a way that people could essentially commute from home for most of it, with some short stays away for particular exercises, I don't think as many people would object.

Im 16, turning 17 this year and 18 next october. Although some people are for national service - I am not. I dont desire to join the army, I enjoy all my limbs and I am not physical in the slightest. To add, I did RAF (royal air force) cadets for a few months and it was fun at first.. but I grew to not like it anymore. I contemplated breaking my leg (falling down the stairs) to not go anymore but didn't have the guts to try it - I was too scared. I have anxiety, so I was unsure what my mum would think. But, I told her, she drove me there and I quit. She was understanding but wondered why I didnt tell her. And that was just cadet training for 11-18. Being in the army or national service just isnt for everyone - although i doubt this will go through i always wonder what Rishi was thinking 😭

Britain's Conscription National Service ended in 63. They created twice quickly because of both wars, but because it is peacetime, it wil be a very slow complex placation that will take a very long time to do. Tories want to create a N.S community service involving 300,000 18 year olds to do this every month. Cameron tried to do this before with the Community Youth Wing, that went bust. Anyway, if the government did try to do this, they will have a huge headache on thier hands due to parliament, law, public, and complex legalsitve matters that is bound to take years to go through. It will be costly and time consuming. They will need 60% of the public vote and 2/3rd of the parliament house. They will have to go through everything in a slow manner, unless war happened. They will have a have a very good reason for doing this and of course, they will have to deal with the Human Rights activities groups and the constant court battles. I doubt this will ever happen.
