I'd only say as a tank commander I doubt he was in any political or stratigical position to do anything about the holocaust even if he'd had turn his tank around, he probably would have been shot by his crew,bit like how come more soldiers didn't defect from the nazis because lots of them didn't know and believed the propaganda

To add to this a bit: the fella was not a "tank commander" as in a commander of a tank (though he was that in 1939), he was the general of the second Panzer Army during the eastern front offensive, Hitler's personal advisor on that conflict and complicit in war crimes such as subjecting any Soviet POW's of the Commissar rank to summary executions. Dude was a full fledged Nazi, though typically to those that avoided or survived the Nuremberg, did a full 180 and has totally always thought this Adolf fella was a rotten egg, pinky promise.
