Really great review! Do you think that the phonics in this coupled with Traditional Spelling is overkill? Do phonics concepts reviewed in these line up with Traditional Spelling lesson plans? Or is that wishful thinking? I had been planning to do this as our literature next year plus phonics plus spelling. But after seeing this review I feel like I could add some copy work and dictation to these guides and call it a day. My son is a pretty strong reader and I don’t want to suck the joy out of reading with overkill. What say you? Your Memoria Press reviews are excellent. (Husband’s account, by the way)

Yes, I do think the amount of phonics is overkill. My daughter was also a proficient reader already when we did this so we didn’t focus too much on phonics at all. No, they don’t line up with TS (that I remember, but my daughter actually used the Simply Classical spelling instead). Yes, I think adding some copywork and dictation would be great.
