This month is the 50th anniversary of the album Dark Side of the Moon. Since this video was made 14 years ago, I would like to update some of the statistics shown in the video. Dark Side of the Moon is now on the Billboard LP chart for nearly 1,000 weeks selling more than 50 million units worldwide! This album was truly memorable and a remarkable gentle and hypnotic piece of music while the lyrics are of their time examining such issues as Madness, sadness, empathy, War, materialism and human existence. Also, we have Miss Clare Torry to thank for the amazing vocals on this song. I would like to add that March 6th was David Gilmour's birthday so go over to his channel and say thank you for this fabulous album and wish him a happy birthday!

Truly a great man. It saddens me even more to know that he was working on another album. Wet Dream is, in my opinion, better than even Gilmour's and Water's solo albums. He is the stuff of legends, the dark and unseen side of Pink Floyd, one who isn't recognized for what he is. A little more of Pink Floyd dies with him, though he will never be forgotten as long as someone out there listens to Pink Floyd. And so, he has reached that which we all seek: immortality. My condolences to his family.

I love his contribution to all the Floyd albums... saw the Floyd live on one occasion, when they played Dark Side, and Rick played an intro to 'Us and Them' on a synth. It was such a beautiful synth sound. That was part of his special qualities as a totally imaginative musician. I got the new Gilmour album "Rattle That Lock" yesterday and have listened to it three times. I put it on last night for my ADHD wife and was only gonna play the first two cuts but she insisted we listen to it all. It's that good. Nobody can make a guitar sing and soar like Gilmour. There are a number of gorgeous solos, great countermelodies, catchy rhythms, and acoustic work, but one thing that sets this one apart from some of his other solo works (and especially the last "Pink Floyd" album he released a few months ago) is the amazing vocals. Yes, David Crosby and Graham Nash are on one great cut, but there's plenty more great harmonies, choirs recorded in big stone cathedrals, and even kid vocals. Dave's living in France has influenced some of the underlying (and one very overt) sounds on the title track and several others. The lyrics are often cryptic but beautiful as written by his wife who is apparently an Olde English scholar judging by the references. One line that also stands out on a song that is subtly anti-war is "I hear the word 'mama' sounds the same in any tongue." After seeing all the refugees fleeing the Mideast and Africa, it particularly hits home. Really powerful song. You'll certainly hear Dark Side, Momentary Lapse, The Wall and other influences come through, too. Oh, yeah, and the coup de force is that Dave apparently learned how to play piano from Rick Wright......

Only recently got a feel for Pink Floyd, despite the fact I was born in 1950. Went through Beatles, Rolling Stones etc. until I got the taste of Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits. But now, since retiring, I've got a taste for other music. At the moment it's Pink Floyd and David Gilmour, Jacques Loussier, more Mark Knopfler, and more. Gorra say, though, I didn't know of Richard until recently. What a genius! RIP Richard. As they say in Yorkshire, "Tha'll do for me". Highest compliment I make.

I can imagine Rick waking up in a strange dark corridor, with a blinding light in front of him. Unsure and frightened at first, he sees a figure slowly emerge in the light, coming towards him. Rick is terrified, unable to move, unsure who this figure his or what their motives are. The figure then extends its hand, then saying in a posh Cambridge accent "Been a long time mate". Syd's come to take him home...
