Texas3Step -- My husband and I were married 💏 💒 in a park in Newport News, Virginia in 1976! We just had our 40th anniversary in July! I graduated High School in June of 1975 in Hampton, Virginia, and he in May of 1974 in Illinois, and was in the Air Force, from October 31, 1974 until August, 1977. He did a "RIF" (Reduction In Force) due to post-Viet Nam downsizing. Totally voluntary, but you had to jump through some hoops to qualify. He did, even though they wanted to send him (us) ✈ to ENGLAND for a few years, and I thought that would have been a once in a lifetime opportunity to be within jumping distance of all Europe, and get there on the government's dime in the process! What a marvelous opportunity for sightseeing trips 🚄🚢📷🚗✈🚟 and such, but it was his job and his enlistment 👮 not mine. So, I let him know how I felt about it, but he had to make the final decision, and he decided he wanted out. So, we got out instead of staying in a while and going to ENGLAND! I was really bummed about the whole deal 😖😭😱 but what could I do? Not much, just stick together. And 40 years later, here we are. 💏 Two grown kids 👪 and six grandkids 👨👨👨👧👦👶! It's all good.

Shari D57 What a wonderful story, Shari. Didn't is surprise you to realize that 40 years had zoomed by? Here's to the next 40!
@sharid767 жыл бұрын
Texas3Step -- Yes indeed! It certainly was a stunner to realize that we've been together longer than almost anyone else we know! The only one that comes immediately to mind is his youngest sister and her husband, who were married for three years already when we got married, but she was much younger than either of us when she married (at 16) her husband, and I think he was 19. His other sister, also younger (my husband is the oldest of five) than we were when she married at 16, but they are not together anymore and haven't been together for years. But, life moves on! We have had our ups and downs, found a few boulders in our pathway through the years, but the biggest thing is that while we may have been angry, and we may have been upset, we still helped each other around those obstacles, and become all the stronger for it. NOT headed straight for a lawyer's office the minute things got a little rough - or even a lot rough. There was a part of our marriage vows that always rang true, where we BOTH said something about "for richer for poorer, for better for worse, in sickness and in health, 'til death do us part" that always seemed to support us through those tough times. We both came out of less than ideal home-lives, and already knew what it took to screw one up - or more to the point, what it would take to keep one going, so we did that instead! Kind of like using them as examples of what NOT to do. And, forty years later, here we are!

1975 will always be remembered as the best year of my life, I was young and in love with the girl of my dreams. That oh so sweet summer of 1975, now so long ago, but the memories are still as poignant and wonderful as ever. Warm beautiful nights under Arizona skies with the song of the locust in the air will never be forgotten nor will my beautiful girlfriend who I loved more than mere words could ever express. We spent many nights cruising in my jet black '70 Dodge Coronet R/T listening to the Bee Gee's, Elton John, Ace, The Eagles, and all of the great music at that time. I was young and in love and everything was right with he world, the promise of love, happiness, and endless tomorrows were ahead, how quickly they passed, now gone forever. All I have are memories of those wonderful yesterdays and now all that remains are certainties, the certainty of growing old, and the certainty of death, I remain a prisoner of my thoughts.

We went to Disneyland back in 1981, and although it was not for me, I got where it was coming from, it was allabout a family all having a good time. We also went to Knott's Berry Farm and Magic Mountain, and I wish wecould all return to that more innocent time.

Many thank yous Johnnyboy792, for taking me back to 1975, which was part of the best decade of my life-the 1970s!Watching Jaws in 1975 was the best moment, and scariest, of that year.

I was 6! And remember all of this! Thanks. Whatta treat! Man our tv shows had the best theme music! And that Jaws, I couldn't take a bath in MY TUB with bubbles and not see the water, and would NOT swim alone in a swimming pool! As silly as that sounds now, it sure was no laughing matter than! People were so cool back then. I wish it would have stayed just like that. It was a sweet time to be alive.

Jaws was it for me. Also loved One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest although I didn't see it until years later. Also loved The Jeffersons and the TV show The Night Stalker, and anything by Led Zeppelin although I didn't get into them until a year or two later because I was so young.. 1975, what a great year! I loved the 1970s! I was born in 1965...

I'd rather have memories of the freedom we had, the clear cut good/ bad guy on TV, and the poem, " High Flight" read right before TV went off at midnight, than all the electronic, Thrones, and whatever zombies kids have today...we were proud to say we believed in God..and we had FUN, plain old bikes, creeks, just walking to the store...never afraid of abduction or being shot...Nashville in the 60's. Miss it so.
