TRUCK CAMPING WITH OUR CAT . . . This Is How It Went | Colorado Life
We went camping with our cat for the first time in the Colorado mountains. Since this was our cat’s first time camping it was important to keep a routine similar to at home and create a space they can relax in, feel safe and enjoy. This helped the transition from home life to camping life. We’ve been harness training our cat for a few months prior to camping - so that he was comfortable wearing a harness. We took him on his first mini walk and he did really good. Since this trip was so far out of his normal element, we gave him time to catch up on his cat naps in between all our adventures. Our cat isn’t quite an adventure cat yet, but with a lot of patience and time, we hope to get him out and about to explore and adventure more and more.
In addition to camping with our cat. We are enjoying time in State Forest State Park in Northern Colorado, visiting the Drala Mountain Center and doing a little fishing. It was a great weekend of exploring Colorado and taking our cat on his first overnight camping trip.

We have a cat that loves car rides but he would have to be in a carrier as he walks around looking out the windows, very distracting. But he loves rides and the outdoors

My husband would think I was nuts if I said I wanted to take my cat camping. Lol 😂 but that’s because he’s a party pooper. I love this!! He looked like he was enjoying it! 💕 I love learning about other cultures too-love places like that!

Great timing for this video. I took my cat camping last month, Texas to colorado, almost three weeks. She did ok in the trailer, but hated the driving. But she’s 17, so she has a touch of cat dementia. But overall, she did great.

Do you guys plan on doing some Winter trips with the truck camper? We decided not to get the Scout and are back trying to figure out which camper to get. I’m curious how your camper does in the Winter temps. Thanks for your videos!

We woke up to frost in the mountains a few times already. It did excellent! We stayed warm and didn't have any issues. I'm not sure we will be taking it a ton winter camping, but we are headed to Arizona next month and probably California in December with it. Also going to try and go to Utah in January with it. So we will see!

What if I want to car camp or tent camping, how do I take care of the litter box and make sure my cat goes in there?

I would just introduce him to the litterbox once you get it all set up where you want it. Once they see and smell it - they should know exactly what to do. That's what we did with Ozzy, we just made sure he knew where it was...and never had an issue yet.

But most raw chicken you buy in the store, you have to worry about salmonella. Is that not a problem for cats?

It hasn't been an issue since 2018. After making his food we immediately freeze it.

I’ve been thinking about making my cat food for a long time, did you have to wean him off the store bought food or did you just switch instantly when you first started?

Yes, I'm so glad we made the switch. We basically just started him on it right away. He loved it from the second we gave it to him (ahh fresh chicken) lol. So we didn't really worry about weaning him off his dry food. We still keep the dry food free for him to snack on, but he definitely prefers his daily fresh chicken over the dry kibble. Very easy transition.
