doing all of your studdying in long sessions will also make you forget more just naturally. do any one thing for long stretches of time and your brain will start tossing out large periods of it from short term memory since as far as your brain is concerned, youre just doing the same thing over and over again, it can just toss out the details and keep the broad strokes and it will be fine, by spacing it out you brain will keep around a larger portion of each study session

So that's what those are called. I have been actually doing interleaving. I find it more effective to switch to subjects when studying/reviewing. And also retrieval practice, a technique that I do with this is to teach myself about the lessons. It really helps me a lot when I talk aloud and teach myself about the lessons I'm studying. I find both effective for me, but a bad habit I do is cram because I'm a procrastinator. I'm stressing my brain so much when I cram and use these styles. I'm about to start college soon and I'm definitely changing my habits for the better.

My college program doesn’t give you two weeks to study for test. They’ll assign you new information to learn and 2 or 3 days later is the exam. Example: day 1 chapter 1, day 2 chapter 2, day 3 chapter 3, and on the fourth day exam. So you’re forced to cram. I need to learn how to retain things quickly.

I've done a part of this before. I was not aware of this video before, but there was a test coming and I had to study fast. It was sorta like Panic Cramming, but its a more effective way. I had to connect the ideas and explain them what they are and what makes them important. I had somehow managed to retain the whole thing after the test for 2 weeks! 2 weeks I tell you. It was really scary that I still remember the information so irrelevant. I think it might be because of one of these methods to study effectively.
@greenapple64045 жыл бұрын
Im weird.. I can cram study things, basically forget it pretty soon, but all of it comes back within a week, or two. When it comes to new and complex topics, I can't do that, but with just a couple hours of studying and a couple nights of good rest Ill have it. But your idea makes sense.. All the small concepts build to a big concept, so go to the big concept and branch it out to small concepts. I can see how it would be super effective.

Great video.. so informative. :) I just like to share what my prof. said to us about preparing and studying for a test or quiz. The moment you prepare is not the night you study before the test next day. But it is rather the moment when the prof. or teacher starts teaching in class the lesson. So it means.. at the start of the class you should be serious and enthuastic in learning. The knowledge you gain will retain longer than just studying an all-nighter...I guess this complements the first method of this video.. which is not to cram. i just emphasize it more that not only your study sessions is the time when you gain knowledge or learn the lesson.. Thats the reason for classes.. you learn from them and your study sessions just hones and polishes the things you learned and gain the things u missed out in class.

Hey! This video was extremely helpful. I was just wondering if you could clarify some things for me. For the first tip, you say to review information from each class, starting a day later. Does this mean instead of reviewing the classes we learnt on that day, we wait until we finish our classes the next day and study _those_ before we revise the ones from yesterday? I'm currently going to boarding school and the school systematically schedules our study sessions every day at the same times (only changing slightly on daylight savings). We get around an hour after school to chill and then we go to designated classrooms depending on our year group. We study for about an hour and 20 min, get another hour and a bit break, then back to the classrooms for another 3 hours, since we're seniors. So that's almost 4 and-a-half hours of study each day. I'm still trying to find a good approach to effectively apply these tips in this video without cramming, given the current circumstances. Wondering if you have any suggestions if it isn't too much hassle? Thank you for your time and I appreciate you sharing these tips to allow fellow students to excel in their learning.

Yes, ideally you'll wait a day before you review a class and then continue to space out your study sessions for that class. Like it says in the video, it's all about consistent short study sessions over time. However, in the real world it doesn't always work out that and we all feel the urge to do at least some cramming. You might find this video useful to come up with a more strategic approach to how you study - kzbin.info/www/bejne/i3qwemd-nZmDrrc

How about imagining what we study i.e converting words to pictures and vice versa when required to recall pictures to words?

For straight memorization then yes, definitely! That's what we teach at www.memorize.academy/free-memory-training
