Memory Foam Topper and Duvalay replacement for our Elddis CV20 campervan

After using one of the cheaper Duvalays for some time, we were looking for something a little smaller and something cotton, especially for the summer.
Nothing wrong with Duvalays and you can buy some more premium ones - this works perfectly for us - Rachel's really pleased with hers too (we have made two of them).
We purchased a cooler than memory foam from Dunelm Mill (Single) and wanted to modify it based on how the beds are setup for sleeping so there wasn't an overhang.
We use single duvets and have 4.5 tog which seem to be perfect. Really pleased and is giving us a great nights sleep and far more practical for us.
I'm not the best with the sewing machine but it did the job 😀
If you decide to do this yourself, this video is just a guide on how I have gone about it to suit my specific purposes and may not be the best way of going about it. You need to personally assess the risk before going ahead and whether it's needed or right for you. Do so at your own risk.

Get you Mr Domestic I’ll bring you some trousers I need adjusting next time we see you 😂 agree the duvalay are wide but we pull out the beds a little to make them wider.

You would only complain when one leg was longer than the other following the adjustment 😂 The duvalay I had was narrower by about 8-10cm, but I just bought the cheap one, good idea though if you want the full width as saves needing to alter too 👍 Have a great weekend, all the best, David

Great job :) I also made some fitted sheets for mine, a simple “envelope” with brushed cotton on one side for winter and a really nice high thread count Egyptian cotton on the other for summer.

Thank you - We had tried a few approaches but this one seems to be the sweet spot between comfort and size for us, also least faff then to transition from day to night in the CV20. If you took a close look at the sewing I would have probably got 6/10 for straight line though 😀 Anyway has done the trick and fits nicely at the back still allowing the small table (the sink cover!) which is really handy for drinks, phones etc. All the best, David & Rachel (and Roxy too!) 👍❤️🐾

Great job. We have the Duvalay’s and they are bulky so like you, we store them on the drivers seat when we park up. I do like the Duvalay’s because we have three small dogs and the construction prevents the dogs from pulling them off the bed! 😂😂 Great tip.

Hi David, co-incidently I have bought and modified the same Dunelm topper,the same as you had.Primarily as you have done as the Duvalays are rar too large to loose in a CV.We keep them permanently onto of the lounge/ bed, and beneath the backrest with a dunelm throw( £19) onto. Thus all it takes is to pop out the bed frame the width of the backrest( which drops) the duvay and cover again stays permanently in place. We do mot use the Elddis supplied upper backrest as it is pointless other than cosmetic. We use 2 of our preferred " conventional" pillows, again as day and night use. This is the BEAUTY of the CV20 and its fairly long single beds and quick get Into. So maybe 1 minute to be in bed NOTHING to store away

Hi David, somewhere on the CV owners I put up some images, but when the top back cushion is removed I fitted some felt discs as a kit at Lidl,(£3.99) these were black or brown and fitted poppers.Also I acquired quite a lot of 2nds from Dunelm at £5 each for large chair covers matching cover to the throws we place over the "bed's/lounge) I have made driving chair covers and mini hammocks for us both for phones,books Mags etc again using poppers at either top end and utilising the relevant " free" male piper studs. Because of recent re-visits to Fiat pro( the Mk8's including ours have dashboard issues ie any mpg units on tripA or B of infotainment or dash are nonsense, also the actual mpg given is 17% low- this equalls US gallons, but apparently there is a UK or US setting and it is in UK- this only minor, but on long runs a tank can do 650miles + not 550

No fix for Mk8 info/ dash issues David.In total the van bought from Spinney at the bargain price of £54,400 ( a bog std manual would have been 48,800)with autobox and £2,400 ( ish from memory) extras ie cab blinds, winter pack, paint coat,alarm,tracker.2nd 95Ah leisure plus later the (same) 2nd flip up. Since collecting in Late May 22 it has been at Fiat pro for 2 months then 3 off 5 days, then 4 single day visits. Fiat say they will one day fix but not soon as not enough vans had been built with this ( Elddis) set up. Love the van, just disappointed Fiat are not fixing. Note just under a week ago PSA became the prime overseers of the Italian van plant.There had been jobs lost including Fiat Technical, where the main man now is from Vauxhall. Fiat Pro manager said likely these ( 2021/22

I thought sewing was for girls (sorry slipped back to the 80's then😁😁) Nice job David, thankfully when our 40 arrives once I have done the bed conversion we won't have this issue. Nice to see we are not the only ones with a stove pipe running through the bedroom rather than on an outside wall. Cheers K.
