Mara Getz, I still remember vividly her performance during Star Search. She was and still is a great singer!

No offence, but I'd like to respectfully disagree with you. MaraGetz' performance was phenomenal. She's made this song her own which is what a true artist does with your own emotion and emphasis on words where YOU feel necessary. If you've looked at other performances of the same song from other artists like Betty Buckley (original Broadway production of CATS) and Sarah Brightman (original London production) both of them have performed this song quite differently and both are highly recognized.

I really do not get these arguments... Mara is obviously talented ffs, this version is vocally amazing, but tbh it wouldnt really fit into cats now would it? Elaine Paige's version might not be as vocally impressive bt maintains and captures the passion and emotion of the character with her performances, SO inclusion BOTH are fookin amazing and i would love to be able to perform half as well as either of them!

In the 80's we would visit smoky little nightclubs near Hollywood and listen to Mara sing. She often closed the show with "Memory". You knew you were in the presence of someone who was about to hit it big. I'm glad she won loads of awards in Europe. She's unique and special.

Elaine Paige was in a W. E. P. of Cats with full makeup and Mara was on a bare stage singing pop. She was not trying to be an old cat. Elaine Paige, Betty Buckley own the song but Mara Getz sings the hell out of it. She has starred on Broadway and makes a living performing. She was not trying to be Elaine Page but she does put a great deal of feeling into the song. Why is everything a competition. All 3 lady's have had great careers and all three lady's still sing this song they're way.

Well attempting to sing an original master piece like an original kind of disregards an artistic ability. I like Mara's version better than Paiges,I think it sounds betetr than C Dion's,if Getz borrowed from anyone I would say Barbara Streisand. I am reminded of a Nine Inch Nails song that was popularised by of all people Johnny Cash version of "Hurt"...so again it's more of personal tastes than original concepts.

Mara has a beautiful voice and sings with so much feeling, I was fortunate to hear her sing live several times and still enjoy those memories. Amazing!
