This is such a great tutorial in that you cover the issues of both coil diameter (for the bracelet) as well as the wire gauge requirements to keep the patterns in place. Thank you so much for all the wonderful advice. 💜🙏

I love large beads, but on the typical stainless steel memory wire, the bracelet would fly off my hand, even when I front and back loaded smaller beads. I did research. Found carbon steel memory wire. Problem solved. I have gotten thicker memory wire in the past. Not easy to find. You've taken the art of designing on memory wire to a whole new level with your research on the thicker wire and your invention. I was in awe, watching you create this bracelet with coil buddy. Heading to Etsy to purchase. I like my randomly designed bracelets, but wow, is it great to see how you can actually design patterns on one!!! Thank you, Luisa!!!!

I bought Luisa’s Coil Buddy and I cannot say enough about how much easier it is make beautiful bracelets! I now spend much less time trying to get my ideas to work and with zero frustration. I also purchased wire from her so I have the recommended gauge, which is hard to find and really makes a difference. If you like making memory wire bracelets, you should try the Coil Buddy.

Beautiful! Finding the right gauge is very complicated! You did a lot of work to make your bracelet look so perfect. It’s mostly hit and miss with watching tutorials to find the answers to questions a person has. I just purchased the coil buddy and I’m excited to use it. I’ve never seen any tutorials that explain so much! Thank you! I’ve even been known to zoom in on the package of memory wire that people are using to see the gauge number! Your tutorials are priceless and lucky are the people who find them! It’s obvious how much love goes into your work! ❤️🙏

Luisa, That's a great tip about running your finger around the memory wire loops to get them untangled -- very helpful, indeed (and will stop me from needing a glass of wine out of frustration. So thanks....I think. (Now I'm going to have to come up with another excuse!)) I was taught that if, after loading on some beads, you hold the whole coil vertical to the work surface, and pull the top end upward, making spaces between the coils (like a circular staircase), the beads will just slide down into place. Very quick and easy. I love this design. So lovely and adaptable to make it one's own. I love tiger's eye beads -- that flash! Oh, and another thing, as to using chips, I used to get frustrated (more wine) because the wire would show between them sometimes, even though it never did when I bought them on the strand. But I saw a video that showed if you just spin the chips around a bit they will nestle down into the next one (saved! from inebriated jewelry making.....hmmm). It may turn out that where you put 5 chips on one side, you may need 6, or whatever on the other, because of said nestling. Thanks for sharing this design. I haven't yet done the experiment as to sizing that we discussed previously (too much wine?), but I'll keep you posted as I expect/hope to sober up soon. Take care!
@MistyMoonDesigns4 жыл бұрын
Kim that’s a great tip about the chips. Yes they are sometimes angled so spinning them until they nestle up to the adjacent bead makes a lot of sense. I love your brain! (Even when it’s had a glass of wine 😊) I always learn something from your posts! I should allow myself a happy hour from time to time but wine makes me sleepy 😴. Yes, holding the memory wire vertically definitely helps keep the loops from tangling. Sometimes I hang a charm to keep it down but it can get tangled if you’re not careful. The most aggravating is when you’ve already slid your beads down and it gets tangled. 😊❤️🌺🌸

So helpful to have the additional info about the wire gauge! Made a bracelet with heavier beads using the coil buddy and was so disappointed in how off-center the design was. I know my wire is lighter gauge, so now I will get the right kind and try again! Thank you so much for doing another video with updated info!
@MistyMoonDesigns4 жыл бұрын
Yes, the weight of your beads and the gauge of your wire will definitely impact your pattern alignment. That’s why I made the video about realigning or retraining your wire. But if you use .8mm thick wire, you won’t have that problem. 😊🌺🌸🌼

@carriesunshine57424 жыл бұрын
Your such an amazing person. To do all this research to help everyone is amazing and i thank you for all of us. I would imagine the weight of the bead would factor into the shift. The heavier the bead the more it pulls. Maybe smaller beads would work for the smaller wire.
@MistyMoonDesigns4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Carrie. I’m still trying different things. There’s so much to consider! Even when you use thicker gauge, like I mentioned in the video, the coils have to stack or the patterns won’t line up. I made a bracelet a few weeks ago using 11/0 seed beads and I actually had to “untrain” the wire...meaning I had to stretch the coils out because the beads were to light. lol! Lots of variables to consider but only when designing precise patterns. 😊❤️🌺🌸

I watched your video again and I realize I did not ignore the first piece. I am working with three rods so I will count four.
@MistyMoonDesigns4 жыл бұрын
Hi Donna. The number of rods shouldn’t matter but if you’re trying to line up a pattern across multiple rows or rods, you have to make sure your pattern is centered on the center guideline. Also, make sure your memory wire has the correct gauge and the coils sit on top of each other. I’ve received wire that was advertised with the wrong gauge. One way to tell if it’s thick enough is when you try and cut it or loop it. If it loops easily, the gauge is probably too thin. It should be challenging to loop if the gauge is thick enough. Feel free to contact me if you need help. luisa@mistymoondesigns.com

This video helped me so very much. I was having difficulty with exact alignment. Now I know that there can't be any overlap at the end of the rows. The main problem I am having is that the plastic stoppers are too loose and they won't stay on the rods. How can I remedy this? I thought about maybe using a hair dryer to try to shrink them but I'm concerned this will melt them and the center hole might melt together. Do you have any suggestions? How much are the longer beading wires? Thank you.

Exquisite and impeccable, and your teaching as well. I love the fine art quality and I love funky gypsy boho style as well. Do you ever use a lot of seed beads, and do you cull them? I noticed your on the top and bottom rows looked quite uniform compared to the ones I have, often they look lopsided next to each other which is ok for boho but not for this style. Yours looked elegant and smooth like they were high quality or culled.

Hi as a beginner I enjoyed this video so much that I ordered the coil buddy. I am having a problem lining everything up on the finished product. It is perfect on the rod but when I string on the memory wire and I am using 8mm memory wire. It’s not lining up. I am wondering if I am not making the cut on the memory properly when I start. Is there a secret as to how each end piece has to line up.

@MistyMoonDesigns10 ай бұрын
Thank you! Luckily most beads have holes that are at least 1mm big. So you shouldn’t have any problems but if the beads are elongated or shaped in a way that doesn’t conform to the curve of memory wire, you may have trouble. I don’t have a favorite place but I use Amazon for Chinese faceted crystals, and Etsy for Czech beads. Of course you can always check out Sam’s bead shop for a large selection of Czech beads.

Will the coil work for a 6 1/2 in wrist and are there different sizes of memory wire? What a wonderful invention. Congratulations!
@MistyMoonDesigns4 жыл бұрын
Yes Marie. It sounds like you need to search for memory wire with a diameter of 50-55mm...that should fit a smaller wrist size. The Coil Buddy has guidelines for 55mm memory wire but you could measure out smaller lengths if you need a smaller bracelet by marking the Coil Buddy with a marker. The challenge will be in finding memory wire that has a 50mm diameter but in the thicker gauge. I believe Pandahall has 18 gauge memory wire but make sure the holes of your beads are big enough to accommodate the wire. 😊❤️🌸🌺

The problem with the thicker memory wire is I can’t curl the ends. I’ve seen beadalon mem wire on their site and also in Michael’s
@MistyMoonDesigns4 жыл бұрын
Oh that’s a great consideration. You’re right! The thicker the wire, the more difficult it would be to loop the end. My next item to research are the memory wire end caps that can be glued. I’m waiting for a shipment so I can test them and let everyone know the results. I’m not a big fan of using glue with metal because metal usually doesn’t have a rough enough surface for glued items to adhere properly but perhaps the inside of the caps have enough grip and with the proper glue or cement, they’ll be durable. I’ll also be receiving 1mm memory wire this week and I can test it with the Beadalon memory wire finishing pliers that I used in the video. 😊❤️🌺🌸

Thank you for the feedback. My bracelets are for my customers but to your point...every bracelet looks big on me because I’m very slender and my wrists measure less than 5 1/2 inches. Please try not to focus on how it looks on me. Instead, try to focus on the method and technique I’m trying to show. Regarding the audio...yeah my phone’s memory is almost completely full and so my video editing apps are having a hard time processing videos. I’m going to have to offload content to fix the problem. Everyone who does video editing knows how challenging that can be. Perhaps I should stop showing my face and just show my hands. It would be much easier on me and less aggravating to the viewer. 😊🌺🌸❤️
