I've begun wondering how people in the crown dependencies feel about Brexit. No one talks about you guys when these issues show up in the British or international media. I know there's a bit of a tourist economy in the channel islands and that many of your ferries originate in Normandy. (I lived in Rennes for three months once and in London for ten years.) I almost wonder if the Channel Islands would do best becoming a microstate like Monaco and Lichtenstein with those very favorable treaties microstates have with the EU. But i also know how British identity is fairly important there too historically. Looking in as an outsider, it seems to me that you all would thrive even more being inside Schengen and using the Euro while retaining that Britishness in your culture. The French tourists would love it. And international tourists would see the islands as a fascinating and beautiful novelty. I imagine the Isle of Man would benefit from a similar arrangement (and perhaps their endangered Celtic language would get a boost from such a political arrangement.)

Our family absolutely love Guernsey. The island is beautiful and St Peters Port is lovely. The island was so floral in summer when we visited, so much history as well. We ended up buying some Guernsey flowers online when we got back home from Guernsey Flowers by Post - some very beautiful Freesias that reminded us of the island. We will be going again this year!!! Brilliant island. I love this travel guide, really sums up the Island!

That was a wonderful trip down memory lane for me. As a child I spent many happy family holidays there. Back in the mid 70’s I was blown away by the little chapel, told my mum I was going to get married there one day. Oh the innocents of childhood. Great video of this beautiful island. Thank you. 😊

Before I was posted there with work, I hadn't even heard of the place. 8 best years of my life, fell in love with the place, my kids were born there also and it was simply the most perfect, super safe, healthy environment for them in those early years. Sad when we had to live but we return annually to revisit the places we love. Ohhh and I do miss l'escargo at the Petit Bistro.

This brings back mixed memories. I visited Guernsey frequently Christmases and summers during the 25 years I was with my ex, as his family live there. I never went to the Little Chapel, as the family said only tourists go there! I liked seeing the ormer shells used, as they are a mollusc - and seafood - only found around the Channel Islands in the UK, which are something like an abalone. If not cooked properly, it can feel like trying to chew a car tyre! That said, eating seafood in Guernsey is a must if you like it. The chancres (spider crabs) are delicious. The quality is excellent. If buying it to cook yourself, there’s a good place near the Cup and Saucer. Hauteville House is well worth a visit. Victor Hugo made some of the furniture from other pieces of furniture, so there are some curiosities, not least the desk where he wrote standing up. The views from the top are great. If you are wanting to go to beaches, as Guernsey is shaped like triangle, depending on the wind direction, you can always find a sheltered beach. In the summers we would sail to the coves and to Herm and Sark. If staying on the island for longer than a weekend a boat trip to those islands is worth it. Your pronunciation of some of the place names are interesting. I’m not surprised as they are an odd mix of English and semi-French but with zero consistency. The same applies to the French or old Guernsey surnames. I love your videos. Always interesting and informative.

Sarah, thank you for sharing your memories of the Island. We were so sad that Hauteville House was closed, it would have been right up our street! Still that is an excellent excuse to visit again and to explore further afield. If you watch regularly my pronunciation is usually pretty mixed up. I try to research the right names, and watch other videos but you never know if they say it right either! Haha. I was never good a languages at school. I should have tried harder! Lovely to hear from you. All the best.

Thank you for this video! First time I've seen anything on Guernsey. Strikingly beautiful and quite charming. I'm originally from Guernsey County, Ohio, USA. Guernsey County was settled between 1800 and 1803 by immigrants from the Isle of Guernsey. Undoubtedly, some of my ancestry is from there.

So impressed - what weather, what sites, such culture and historical & natural delights! I've been to Jersey a few times, but always, mistakenly, thought Guernsey would be too small - but it's BEAUTIFUL! Especially with such gorgeous weather. Didn't see any Guernsey cows or ice cream - just driving around the Channel Islands isn't for the faint hearted & as you suggest, the bus could be the way to go. Hope you get to return when everything is open once more.

@@MemorySeekers Well it certainly made me want to go there, which was a first - so job accomplished on that score! I'd say you could easily take up to a week in Jersey, there's quite a bit to see, the WWII museums take a bit of time. This is a wonderful video, you really captured the essence of Guernsey and why its such a popular place place to live! Hopefully this will encourage many more to visit the island as I believe it does not get the attention it deserves. Thanks so much! P.s. Petite Bot is actually pronounced Pety Bow, and the loophole tower you showcase there has actually been converted into a holiday home with a hatch in the roof that functions as a balcony. It is very compact, probably similar to staying in a camping van, but might be a fun stay for a night or 2 🇬🇬

Thx for the 🎥. Although it's more than 45min flight from my place of living, I find this film very interesting.

Beautiful Island. Not visited myself yet but been considering it.

Just lovely! Yet another place that has long been on my bucket list. Just wondering... when was this filmed? Are people really able to walk around in shorts in early November?
@janerider1953 жыл бұрын
The weather tends to be warmer then mainland UK
@MemorySeekers3 жыл бұрын
Not sure shorts in November this was filmed mid August 21.

Once again, THank You Simon and Will!!! I'm now thinking, wouldn't it just be better to move to the UK for a period of time and just take trips? Guernsey is outrageously gorgeous!!
@MemorySeekers2 жыл бұрын
It really is gorgeous, and it might indeed be cost effective to spend an extended period here if you can.
