7 School Dinners
Just a silly story,
But important at the time,
We all have lunch time stories,
So let me tell you mine.
Two grades in a single room,
Nine students in my class,
A perfect situation,
I knew would never last.
We filed to the lunch line,
Then back to our own seats,
With books and papers everywhere,
That is where we’d eat.
The problem was my eating,
I ate way too fast,
I didn’t know what to do,
If I didn’t finish last.
Was I just to sit there,
Being the only one,
You couldn’t bring your tray back,
Until everyone was done.
And they sometimes offered seconds,
You must be ready if it came,
With your tray at the ready,
You played a waiting game.
I conjured the solution,
It was genius in fact,
Tomorrow when we lined up,
I’d line up in the back.
And the plan worked perfect,
And showed I wasn’t rude,
And being the very last in line,
I think I got more food
