Absolutely fantastic! I have come to the same conclusions but never did the testing. It's a really good idea to have both and use the larger one when the demand calls for it.

I’ve seen someone else run a couple of smaller generators simply because they’re more fuel efficient. Kind of makes sense. You’ve basically tested a moderate sized one and a small one and definitely shown the advantages of smaller ones. The other advantages are: easier to transport or move around, easier and probably less expensive to work on, one can act as backup if another has an issue, parts interchange if you have two of the same model, possible getting a good deal if purchasing two at the same time, familiarity with one is familiarity with both, reduced decibels. The only downside that I can think of the requirement to connect both to the house service, but I’m sure someone has figured out a good way to do that.

You just gave me a great idea for another video

Ya, Makes sense unless you need more power. Some of the new generators have auto throttle per load so their not running full bore when the load doesn't require it.

I have several generators on the farm and backfed at 4 different homes for 35+ yrs. Regular gens are great but cost a bunch to feed and darn noisy. I bought a 3500 Predator Inverter in 2020 and loved it so much I bought a 2nd one after seeing how well built they are inside. Mine are best of models having a gas guage and no C/O sensor. One inverter runs fridge, chest freezer, lights, T.V's and gas furnace or window unit all at the same time with power to spare. It tells ya hours, watts, amps and total hours on unit. Very quiet and uses very little gas. I fire up a reg. gen. to run the well when needed. My brother has a Generac and complained how much L.P. it was using just running fridge, freezer, lights for 6 days this past summer. Generac is fine if you're out of state but I'll stick with what I have. In fact I like the 3500 so much I bought a 2,000 Predator this spring but have to figure out how to disable the C/O sensor. Always drain ALL gas out of gens if not used regularly then you know it will start when needed. Thanks for a great comparison and you are right, regular gens eat a bunch of gas and you don't have to run well, water heater, stove, etc. all at the same time.

Have 3, 1,500, 3500 and 15,000. Use the 1,500 for frig, freezer and couple led lights and the internet router during long outages. Will run 17 hours on a tank about 1.5 gallons. Run the 15k one for a few minutes a couple times a day to run the well and other large appliances. It will run for 3 or 4 hours on 5 gallons. 3500 is for remote worksites for power equipment. It's dual fuel. Which is pretty handy.

just look at the size of the motor, that alone says the bigger one will burn more at no load, add in a 10% load and it is even more. but yea...sure for the rich that can afford ten generators for ever need. but at this end of the scale, i can not afford such. heck i have trouble just buying food for a whole month. forget gasoline to go see my mom. with prices, and now i get to pay for medicare. i can only go see her once a week. (she lives in a medical memory care home).
