In my experience it seems like women with the most negative opinions on men have been hurt by them a lot and same for men towards women. Betrayal and heartbreak, especially over and over again, really stains the perception of the opposite sex after a while. It hurts too much to keep forgiving and trying again at attaining a loving partnership. It eventually seems easier to just villainize the other side. But society has taken turns going “women suck” “no, men suck” when in reality if we treated each other and ourselves better everything would suck much much less. Sounds simple doesn’t it…

I'm a person who has been known and recognized solely by being "the guy that smiles and says hello to everyone," and in all 21 years of my life I've never had a girlfriend, never even had someone who seemed romantically interested in me. I've made friends quickly, but I've never had a true friend that I felt comfortable sharing everything with. None of the friends I currently have truly know me on a deeper, personal level, nor do I know them. Part of that is because I don't like sharing deeply personal things, but part of it is also just that I've never felt that kind of bond with someone. All this to say that things like "just smile more" and "just get more friends" are not solutions to loneliness. What I want more than anything else in life is a woman who cares about me and accepts everything I am, and every day that passes, that seems less and less possible in this world. Maybe one day, I'll stumble upon the right person. But I'm not hedging my bets on anything. I'm prepared to consign myself to loneliness for the rest of my life, because it just might be impossible to find someone else to lean on and love.
@TheReluctantVlogger5 ай бұрын
I think the “smile more” stuff was a tongue in cheek reference to how women are told to smile a lot. And you’re right, it has nothing to do with anything. People who are the kindest are often the loneliest. I’ve never ever thought all men were the same. I’ve never felt that way about people in general. How ignorant. I’m 37. I’ve struggled with isolation a lot in my life. For as long as I can recall. I craved companionship so badly, and paired with having been raised by abusive people, I inadvertently chose and accepted abuse from the men and friends I’ve had. I don’t know which is worse sometimes. Having no one to love or loving people who don’t love you back. They’re both quite miserable. Now, I really question if I’ve ever had a true friend myself. I’ve spent so much time alone, (not by choice), that I lost myself and my mind a bit in a sort of void. I fantasized about taking my own life daily for a while and would’ve if not for my child. Living felt far scarier than death. Perhaps not by gunfire, but an OD that would’ve eventually occurred. I figured I needed to begin accepting loneliness as my fate as well. But then I realized that I had resigned myself to it in such a way that I was having trouble feeling connection at all anymore. Like I had accepted a life of loneliness wasn’t just a possibility, but an inevitability. The two became very similar in my mind. Now idk. I feel a strange ambivalence towards most things but I feel at peace in a way, too. There’s a fine line between those two things as well. I truly hope that you find what you’re looking for, and at the very least you find comfort and peace within this cruel and confusing thing we call life. You deserve better than what you’ve gotten. It’s so very sad that good people are neglected while obnoxious, selfish people are rewarded.

Modern Western (mostly online) culture glorifies victimization, marginalization and disability with such fervor that people strive to be acknowledged as a member of one or many of these groups. It's a race to see who can claim to be the most oppressed. Working to overcome your misfortunes and become productive member of the general populace is less important than demanding everyone else cater to your whims via social media.

The narrow one sided thinking going around in 2024 is just wild. 2 things can be true at once. Men can be going through a loneliness crisis AND women can be experiencing their own “awakening” or independence or whatever. Truth is, we affect each other. A lot of good men are suffering because of what bad men have done and a lot of women are weary of all men because of what some bad men have done and feel like single living is just the safer, easier option. If men were encouraged rather than disregarded emotionally, maybe they could help themselves find ways to cope better and feel better. I wish we could just love each other enough to truly listen with UNDERSTANDING as the goal. We didn’t get here over night. We’re experiencing what we are now in huge part due to what happened 100 years ago, 50 years ago, 20 years ago, sure. But our solution is now, not in the past. @@AshleighCarter5100 you know that even if a man does want a woman to be "prettier", a smile doesn't really go that far in improving your physical appearance. what it does help is your approachability, and having people being more keen to talk to you can subsequently improve your mood further while the subtle effects of smiling already make you more likely to be happy. however, it is difficult to convey this fully to any person, man or woman or otherwise, as it can sound quite demeaning and controlling. thus, i think this phrasing along the lines of "you'd be prettier if you smiled more" is more akin to (imo) advice like "you should eat more carrots, they're good for your eyes" or "you shouldn't sit close to the tv, it's bad for your eyes". while both ot these advices employ faulty premises as a reason (beta carotene in carrots does not significantly improve eyesight, close tv viewing does not damage eyes in the long term), they still use these premises to arrive at good advice (eating more of any vegetable is good 99% of the time, and staying further from the tv probably lets you stay more aware of your surroundings + may get you to start taking better care of your eyes). so yeah, there is 100% more tactful ways to give advice to basically smile more, but i think a lot of men just give the pretext of being prettier to frame smiling as a sort of solution (men are generally more solution-driven) to help with insecurity or just looking better, so that women are more likely to take that advice. while there are obviously some bad actors who manipulate the intentions behind words like this, and there might be some background desire to wanting a more approachable face to greet you, i think most human beings would want the latter and that should not discount the fact that such comments are made in good faith probably. now, of course, the problem would be then addressing the emotional immaturity of men who respond poorly to women who take this "advice" less well than they anticipated, which i would say is a valid criticism and point for improvement. that is just my perspective however, biased as a man

Men do smile 🙂 we smile through the pain, put on a facade of being “okay”, all because that’s how we’re raised. More often than not, I believe, it’s not the majority of men revealing how not okay they are, it’s other people noticing and realizing “Oh… wow, I don’t think they’re okay”, because a lot of times men just… internalize everything, and don’t really reveal just how much is actually happening inside.

In a strictly biological context, women inherently have a specific purpose; bearing and caring for children. Men biologically need to earn, in a sense, their privilege to father those children. Hence why men do all the stuff they do and women focus more on health and appearance. (I don’t personally identify with that but it is what it is). Fun fact: there are more genius men than there are women, but men are also more likely to be mentally r*tarded and have psychological disorders. Women are more centered. Again, it’s all about biological incentives. So, in fact, there aren’t as many crazy women out there as there are men, but they are probably more boring lol. You win some you lose some

A sex robot is the solution for some men, not all men. Men aren’t a monolith, it’s just a grouping by appendage, and when we keep trying to say “well I have things figured out for myself so this thing that worked for me must be it” except it’s not that simple. Religion and philosophy used to cover these areas when people had time for them, they get pushed to the wayside by the 24/7 need to be here now and further the choices other people made instead of deciding what to do for yourself. There is a lot of great advice that can be give in general about subject broadly, what individual people need is to be sat down one on one, figure things out, and have their needs met, how that occurs unfortunately can’t be so direct as just doing that. So here we find ourselves on the internet trying to figure it out for ourselves.
